Garner's Scotty McCreery to perform as part of State's Hoops 4 Hope

N.C. State women's basketball announced on Thursday that Scotty McCreery will perform at halftime during the program's seventh annual Hoops 4 Hope event on Feb. 12.

State hosts Wake Forest at Reynolds Coliseum at 5 p.m.

The Hoops 4 Hope event, which was started by former State coach Kay Yow, advocates breast cancer awareness and research. The event was started to offer hope to suvivors of the disease.

McCreery, a burgeoning country music star, will sing a song at halftime as a special tribute to survivors in attendance.

RALEIGH — The N.C. State women's basketball team, playing with the toughness it has mustered all season, found the shooting touch it needed to overcome No. 17 Virginia 60-54 before an elated sold-out crowd at Reynolds Coliseum.

After taking an early first-half lead, the Wolfpack rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second after the Cavaliers went on a 16-0 run that would put them ahead 38-29.

During the Cavaliers' run between the end of the first half and over the first seven minutes of the second half, the Pack shot 0-for 11 from the field and looked completely rattled.
