Hillside baseball with East is postponed

Durham Hillside's baseball game with East Chapel Hill, originally set for today, has been postponed to 5 p.m. Thursday. Standing water on the campus after Monday night's severe storm left the field unplayable for Tuesday.
In other high school baseball news,  Jordan won 13-1 at Orange on Monday, and Riverside has a game at league-leading Roxboro Person (5-2, 4-0) this evening. Jordan (13-1 overall) has won five straight since a 4-2 loss to Person.

East baseball at Hillside is postponed

East Chapel Hill’s baseball game at Durham Hillside, originally set for today, has been postponed to 5 p.m. Thursday. Standing water on the campus after Monday night's severe storm left the field unplayable for Tuesday.
The game is crucial for the Wildcats, who won five straight up to last Saturday’s 3-1 loss to West Forsyth in the Hilltop Invitational.
East Chapel Hill (8-6 overall, 3-2 PAC) remains within one game of Riverside and Jordan for second place in the Piedmont Athletic Conference.
Riverside has a game at league-leading Person (5-2, 4-0) this evening, and the Wildcats are scheduled to host Person at 4:30 p.m. Friday — less than 24 hours after playing Hillside.

Hillside tops perfect season with 4-A championship

WINSTON-SALEM -- Senior quarterback Vad Lee happily danced while waving a towel. Coach Antonio King was drenched in Gatorade. Running back Jamaal Williams had a huge grin on his face. The defense had just stopped the opponent inside the 5-yard line as all the time slowly ticked off the fourth-quarter clock.

Durham Hillside had just won the state championship in dominating fashion.

Lee capped off his high school career by throwing 264 yards and three touchdowns, while Williams ran for 83 yards and two scores as the Hornets left no questions about who was the best 4-A team, blanking Davie County 40-0 and completing their mission of a perfect 16-0 season.

DURHAM – Durham Hillside started the game by fumbling away the opening kickoff and sputtering on its first offensive possession.

That's about all that went wrong for the Hornets on Friday night.

The No.1 team in the N&O rankings stayed undefeated, cruising to an easy 43-0 road victory over Durham Riverside at Linny Wrenn Stadium.
