Gibbons' Bugg named N.C. Volleyball POY

Cardinal Gibbons senior Madison Bugg has been named the 2011-12 Gatorade North Carolina Volleyball Player of the Year

The award places the 6-foot-1 outside hitter and setter, who has committed to play at Stanford next year, in the running for Gatorade's National Volleyball Player of the Year award.

Garner leads Neuse volleyball

The Greater Neuse River Conference released its all-conference awards for volleyball.

Volleyball championships set

The N.C. High School Athletic Association volleyball championships will be held at Reynolds Coliseum this Saturday on the campus of N.C. State University.

The Triangle is represented in the 3A and 1A title matches, where Cardinal Gibbons looks to add to its numerous state titles, but Durham's N.C. School of Science & Math is making its first-ever apperance in the championship.

The times for each of the four championships are below

PAC Six All-Conference volleyball

Riverside lands four on PAC-6 all-conference volleyball team.

East finals in volleyball

The East finals are Tuesday night in the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets. We're down to three Triangle teams total.

The brackets are below, with the host team listed on top.

Saturday marks 4th round of NCHSAA volleyball

Three rounds down, three more to go.

The NCHSAA volleyball playoffs are in the fourth round this Saturday, with each bracket down to eight teams in all and just four on the eastern half of the bracket.

We've posted what's left of the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets below. The host team is on top.

Who's still alive? Green Hope, Riverside, Cardinal Gibbons, Chapel Hill, South Granville, N.C. Science & Math and Princeton.

Apex's O'Connell steps down

One of the Triangle's most successful high school volleyball coaches will not return to the hardwood next season.

Nikki O'Connell, who guided Apex to the 2010 4A state championship with a 27-0 record, stepped down on Wednesday.

Third round of NCHSAA volleyball playoffs

The third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association volleyball playoffs will be played Thursday night. Below show who is left in the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets. In cases where teams have the same seed from different conferences, we've placed the host team on top.

There are several intriguing match-ups left in each area.
