Area athletes sign national letters

Today is national letter of intent signing day for football, cross country, soccer, field hockey and track and field. Dozens of area athletes are expected to sign today. Here is a list of the athletes expected to sign today as reported to the News & Observer by the schools. The list will be updated throughout the day.

Top distance runners compete

Many of the top boys and girls high school distance runners will compete tonight in the Raleigh Relays at N.C. State.

The girls field for the 7 p.m. race includes Ravenscroft freshman Wesley Frazier, Millbrook's Samantha George, East Chapel Hill's Carolyn Baskir, plus top runners from throughout the state and into Virginia.

The boys field may even be more packed. The boys race is scheduled for 7:20.
