Panther Creek won the Tri-9 for the first time, snapping Green Hope's 82-conference match win streak

Below are the team standings, as well as the top six singles players and doubles teams that advanced to the 4A regional competition.

Statewide NCHSTCA preseason girls' tennis rankings

Eleven Triangle girls' tennis teams open the year ranked in the top 10 of their respective classifications. The rankings are compiled by votes from the N.C. High School Tennis Coaches' Association.

  • 4A - No. 1 Broughton, No. 4 Panther Creek, No. 5 East Chapel Hill, No. 6 Green Hope, No. 7 Millbrook
  • 3A - No. 2 Cardinal Gibbons, No. 3 Chapel Hill
  • 2A - No. 3 Carrboro, No. 5 Cedar Ridge

East finals in girls tennis

There exists a possibility that the Triangle could sweep the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East in girls tennis and have four representatives in Saturday's state championships in Burlington.

Two of the four are certanties.

After Tuesday's matches, the N.C. High School Athletic Association girls team tennis playoffs are down to just eight teams in each classification. Scroll down to see who is left standing and where their matches will be played at next Tuesday.

Second round NCHSAA girls tennis match-ups

After Tuesday's first round, there are just a handful of area teams still alive in the NCHSAA girls team tennis playoffs. 

Here are next Tuesday's second-round matches in the 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A East brackets. The headliner has to be in the 4A bracket, where the state's Nos. 1 and 2 teams -- Broughton and East Chapel Hill -- square off.

Cary Academy, Saint Mary's are Nos. 2 and 3 in girls tennis

Cary Academy is the No. 2 seed and Saint Mary's is the No. 3 seed in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3-A dual-team tennis championships.
