Sanderson boys and Heritage girls adding lacrosse programs

Two more varsity lacrosse programs in the area are expected this spring.

The NCHSAA has released a draft of next year's lacrosse conferences, and on them are a few new programs. Sanderson, which fielded a club boys' lacrosse team last spring, will be a varsity. Heritage will field a varsity girls' lacrosse team for the first time.

Cardinal Gibbons names Taylor Chumney new girls’ lacrosse coach

Cardinal Gibbons announced Friday that it has hired Taylor Chumney as its new girls' lacrosse coach. Chumney has served as an assistant lacrosse coach at East Chapel Hill and been coaching club lacrosse with the Carolina Fever.

Cardinal Gibbons is 32-5 over the past two seasons with three of those losses coming to eventual state champions. Chumney replaces Prudence Scott, who had been the coach since the 2007 season.

Two notes with this - 1) this is an incomplete all-conference list as not every coach replied with their teams and 2) we are missing stats from Apex's final two games.

NCHSAA girls lacrosse pairings

The N.C. High School Athletic Association girls lacrosse playoffs begin Friday, May 4. Conference champions East Chapel Hill, Green Hope and Cardinal Gibbons received first-round byes. Defending state champ Apex is a 2-seed.

NCHSAA confirms lacrosse conferences

The NCHSAA finalized the boys and girls lacrosse conferences for this year. There were no changes in the area from the NCHSAA's first draft, which can be found by clicking here.

NCHSAA sends out draft of changed lacrosse conferences

The N.C. High School Athletic Association has released its first draft of this spring's boys and girls lacrosse conferences. Since less than a fourth of NCHSAA schools have either program, new conferences are made bringing together those that do. Finalized conferences will be released later.

Among the proposed changes:
