Regional basketball times, dates set

The East regionals start Tuesday with the 4-A girls and 3-A boys.

Southeast Raleigh, Millbrook, Northwood and Northern Durham girls begin play while Chapel Hill, Millbrook, Wakefield and Northwood boys start play.

Friday's NCHSAA East boys basketball sectional finals

In the 4-A ranks, Garner and New Hanover meet for a sectional title for the second straight year. Chapel Hill gets a chance to advance to the 3-A East Regional, while Northwood visits cross-county rival Jordan-Matthews in the 2-A ranks.

The Tri-Nine Conference announced its all-conference awards for boys and girls basketball after completion of its conference championship games Friday. Here they are below:

Middle Creek, Wakefield boys in same bracket

Tri-Nine champion Middle Creek (22-4) and Cap Eight champ Wakefield (22-3) are in the same sectional bracket. Both cannot get to the regional in Fayetteville.

Garner looks good in its sectional

Five of eight teams in Garner's sectional bracket have 11 or more losses. The other No. 1 seed is New Hanover (19-5).
