Green Hope, East Chapel Hill, West Johnston and Wakefield earned No. 1 seeds in 4A brackets. Defending 4A champ Holly Springs is at Wakefield on Friday, but some games may be pushed to Thursday.

Cary Academy baseball coach Ray Pope won his 100th game as head of the program Tuesday.
Cary Academy also won Thursday, moving the team to 11-0 this season.

Scotty McCreery makes pitching debut for Garner High School baseball team

Scotty McCreery lived out his dream Saturday afternoon: one of the dreams he had before he became an “American Idol.”
McCreery played in his first varsity baseball game for the Garner Trojans, pitching the seventh inning of the Trojans’ 8-7 loss to Fuquay-Varina, one of the area’s best teams.
Apex to honor four baseball greats

Apex High plans to honor four of its best baseball players during a halftime ceremony this Friday in its boys basketball home game against Holly Springs.
Tim Federowicz, Michael Knox, Matt Mangini and Seth Frankoff -- all of whom are currently playing at the major and minor league level -- will be honored with a banner to be placed along the baseball field's outfield wall this spring.
