With rain on the first day, a number of competitors at the 60th Carolinas Junior Championship were forced to play rounds one and two yesterday on the Dogwood course at The Country Club of North Carolina in Pinehurst, N.C.

Alex Ehlert of Athens Drive shot a one-over-par 73 on Monday to be the medalist in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Mid-East boys golf regional at Anderson Creek Golf Club.

The top three teams — Green Hope, Northern Durham and Apex — advance to the NCHSAA 4-A finals next week along with the top three finishers who are not members of a qualifying team.

Joining Ehlert as qualifying individuals are Durham Riverside's Jack Garrett and Fuquay-Varina's Harrison Ashworth. Both shot 74.

Green Hope dominated the team competition with a 303. Northern Durham and Apex each shot a 314. Northern Durham advances as the No. 2 team by winning the tie-breaker.
