Cheap milk deal at Harris Teeter

Check your email from Harris Teeter for a Saturday-only E-Vic special on milk -- $2.57 per gallon.

There's a limit of two and the deal is only good Saturday.

Many of the E-Vic specials vary from customer to customer but the Saturday-only and Sunday-only specials seems to be the same for everyone.

I sure hope so because that's a price on milk we haven't seen in a long time.

Combine sales with freezer cooking to save money and time

Over the last three weeks, all the major grocery chains in the Triangle have had huge sales on chicken. And the good deals continue.

This week, Harris Teeter has split chicken breasts on sale for 99 cents per pound and Food Lion has a sale on drumsticks and thighs for just 79 cents per pound.

At a dollar per pound or less, it's a good time to stock up, purchasing enough to feed your family until the next big sale rolls around.

Even if you're like me and have limited storage space, you can still take advantage of these stock-up sales by setting aside a few hours to do some batch cooking or freeze-ahead cooking.

Wednesday grocery deals, Jan. 23-29

This week's big news in the grocery world is the Super Double coupon promotion at Lowes Foods. Not only did it come as a surprise, but Lowes Foods has also upped the ante, allowing $2 coupons to double.

Even so, Harris Teeter has several stellar deals, including stock-up prices on split chicken breasts, Chex Mix (free!), canned goods, Kozy Shack pudding and Mt. Olive pickles, among other deals.

At Food Lion, pair a coupon with a nice sale to bring home free Smithfield ham. Plus, there are nice deals on carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, Russet potatoes and Gala apples.

And at Aldi, take advantage of several produce deals, including cantaloupe for just $1.29 each.

New coupons = new deals at Harris Teeter Super Doubles

With more than 300 new coupons in today's N&O, there are plenty of new deals to score at Harris Teeter in the final days of its Super Double coupon event.

Below I've listed the deals I discovered, including six freebies and another 16 items you can score for under $1 through midnight Tuesday when the promotion ends.

My absolute favorite deal using today's new coupons? Finish dishwasher tablets are BOGO for $2.89 each. Use the $2.15 coupon and pay just 74 cents per box. If your store runs out, be sure to get a rain check because this deal works even without the Super Doubles promotion.

Database updated with Sunday's new coupons

The News & Observer's  coupon database has been updated with all of the new coupons -- and there were a bunch.

This Sunday's home-delivered Final Edition of The News & Observer contains six inserts -- three Smart Source, two Red Plum and a Target -- for a total of 302 coupons with a face value of more than $400.

That's before you double the first coupon, of course, which we have the opportunity to do every day of the week at Kroger, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods.

And this week, we have the good fortune to take advantage of Harris Teeter's Super Double coupon promotion, which doubles coupons with a face value of up to (and including) $2. That promotion runs through midnight Tuesday.

Not familiar with the coupon database? You can access it on the right-hand side of the blog. There's a button at the bottom right to view it as a full-size page. Since there are multiple inserts, I've numbered each one and identified it in the database key.

You may also download the database as an Excel spreadsheet by clicking on the attachment at the bottom of this post.

It's a handy tool, giving you the most timely and detailed list of coupons in the Triangle.
