Wednesday Deals (Nov. 9-15)

With just 14 days until Thanksgiving, the supermarket circulars are brimming with sales on all the fixings for the big holiday meal, including turkeys, stuffing, gravy and baking ingredients.

Harris Teeter has also got a fabulous price on milk this week at $2.97 per gallon.

And another highlight of the weekly sales circulars: Food Lion and Harris Teeter are  offering special discounts for military personnel in honor of Veterans Day.

Read on for a store-by-store breakdown of all the top deals.

New Sunday coupons = new deals at Harris Teeter Super Doubles

It's time for Round 2 of Super Doubles at Harris Teeter, thanks to a new set of coupons from the Sunday newspaper coupon inserts AND a new set of printable coupons released by the companies backing the Believe in Heroes/Wounded Warrior project.

Here are a few of the deals I spotted:

We have a winner...in the Harris Teeter gift card giveaway

I asked you to tell me how you did shopping at Harris Teeter this week during Super Doubles, and you came through with some great reports.

Some of you gave me your entire lists, telling me how much you saved down to the penny. Others posted new deals discovered in the aisles. One reader even posted a photo of her Super Doubles haul!

And a few readers lamented empty shelves, which, sad to say, is an occupational hazard of being a couponer.

I loved reading all the comments and appreciate your enthusiastic participation. But, of course, I only have one $10 gift card to give away.

Turn your turkey leftover recipes into cash

Thanksgiving is still three weeks away, but the folks at Harris Teeter want you to think ahead to the leftovers.

They want your best turkey leftovers recipes and they're willing to pay for them.

Here's what 55 cents can buy

I hit Harris Teeter early to shop the first day of Super Doubles armed with a detailed list, a fully loaded coupon binder and a back-up plan.

Luckily, the shelves were fully stocked and I walked out with a couple bags bulging with groceries and change back from a $1 bill.

Total before coupons and vic savings: $60.16.

Total paid: 55 cents.

Here's what I bought:

  • 3 Smart Balance half-gallons of milk
  • 2 Dawn dish liquids
  • 2 Blue Diamond Almonds
  • 2 Blue Diamond Nut-Thins
  • 1 Wholly Guacamole
  • 2 Crisco Oils
  • 3 Aveeno lotions
  • 1 Nuetrogena Hand Cream
  • 2 cans Swanson broth
  • 1 BestLife Buttery Spread
  • 1 Febreeze Set & Refresh
  • 1 Febreeze Air Effects
  • 1 Sara Lee pound cake

In addition to my paper coupons, I had digital e-vic coupons for one Dawn and both Febreeze products. I also had a raincheck on the bottles of Crisco oil, which made them just 27 cents each after Super Doubles.

Then I "paid" with a $4 OYNO coupon I earned last week. That left me with 55 cents of tax to pay. Even better, the register spit out another $4 coupon for me to spend on a future order.

You might be wondering how in the world I'm going to feed my family on this grocery order. Obviously not.

Since our pantry and freezer are pretty well-stocked, I have the luxury of taking the week off from a full-blown shopping trip.

But I will be heading back out later this week to pick up the great chicken and produce deals at Aldi. And if I have time, I'll return to Harris Teeter to snare a few more Super Doubles deals.

UPDATED: Super Doubles deals list for Harris Teeter

Harris Teeter kicks off a weeklong Super Doubles coupon event starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, which means you'll have the opportunity to load up a grocery cart and pay just pennies on the dollar.

Using the prices at our local Harris Teeter stores AND the coupons we received here in the Triangle, I've come up with a fantastic list of FREE and extremely inexpensive groceries you should be able to score at your store.

I've walked the aisles of a local Harris Teeter, verified prices online, checked shelf tags for sales dates and read the fine print on coupons so you won't be disappointed when you get to the store.

Super Doubles possible at Harris Teeter!

The word on the street in couponland is that Harris Teeter will offer a Super Doubles coupon event starting Wednesday, Nov. 2.

Folks on the national coupon blogs are buzzing about it so I wanted to give all of you the big heads up. With cold rainy weather this weekend, what better pastime than clipping and organizing coupons, right?
