Ham, turkey, vegetables, rolls and napkins -- they're all on sale this week at the supermarket, just in time for holiday gatherings. Among the best deals: Sister Schubert rolls for 59 cents at Harris Teeter, 20-cent canned Green Giant veggies at Lowes Foods, $1.29 per pound spiral sliced ham at Food Lion and 99-cent pineapples at Aldi. And my personal favorite deal of the week: $3.88 for 5 pounds of Clementines at Food Lion.

Update: More bargain-priced milk this week

Need milk?

Through Saturday, Walgreens still has the best price on milk in the Triangle at just $2.79 per gallon.

But starting today, there's another place to score a cheap gallon: Harris Teeter has milk on sale through next Tuesday, Dec. 20, for $2.97.

And as I've said many times, any time you can find milk for under $3 a gallon, you've scored a good deal. (If anyone out there knows of a better price, please share!!)

There's no coupon required at either store. But Walgreens has a two gallon limit and you must have a VIC card to get the deal at Harris Teeter.

Wednesday Deals (Dec. 14-20)

There are lots of grocery bargains to be snatched up this week: Harris Teeter has got milk for $2.97, plus great deals on eastern apples, butter, Crest toothpaste and Pantene shampoo and conditioner. At Lowes Foods, you can pick up free boxes of cereal with the right coupon combinations, along with 15-cent hot sauce, 20-cent canned veggies and $1.47 per pound spiral ham. Food Lion has got an even better deal on spiral ham at $1.29 per pound, along with sales on baking supplies and 89-cent Coke 2 liters. Aldi has some super deals on produce, including 99-cent whole pineapples and sweet potatoes for 33 cents per pound.

Best prices on holiday baking ingredients

Chocolate chips aren't cheap and neither are basics like flour and sugar, especially if you're buying for marathon sessions in the kitchen this holiday season.

So here's my gift to you -- a cheat sheet on the best prices I could find on seven key ingredients in holiday goodies: flour, sugar, eggs, butter, pure vanilla, chocolate chips and marshmallow cream.

I checked seven stores in the Triangle (Aldi, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Kroger, Lowes Foods, Target and WalMart) and here's what I found.

Wednesday Deals (Dec. 7-13)

Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods both have great e-offers this week. At Harris Teeter, you can pick up two 87-cent bags of sugar -- just in time for holiday baking. And at Lowes Foods, you can score two boxes of $1 dishwasher tablets -- just in time for all those holiday dishes.

There are also some noteworthy deals on frozen veggies, nuts, flavored coffee creams, cereals and bagged salads.

Wednesday Deals (Nov. 30-Dec. 6)

It's definitely a week to go store hopping, picking up the best bargains at each supermarket. Harris Teeter has got milk for $2.97 a gallon, matching Kroger's price, as well as whole-grain pasta for just 10 cents a box. Also at Harris Teeter, be sure to check your digital coupons. There are some new digital coupons on P&G products that will combine with paper coupons, scoring you 99-cent Pantene hairspray and stylers and 74-cent packages of Duracell batteries.

Lowes Foods has a great sale on boneless chicken breasts for $1.79 per pound, a definite stock-up price. Food Lion is offering a $10 coupon off your next order when you buy $50 in select gift cards. And at Aldi, there are some great deals on baking ingredients and produce (How does $1.49 for a 5-pound bag of grape fruit sound?)

Forgot an ingredient? Here are supermarket hours on Thanksgiving

If you're mixing up the corn pudding on Thanksgiving Day and suddenly realize you're one can short, don't panic. Supermarkets throughout the Triangle have got you covered.

Most grocery stores are open until mid-afternoon. But Kroger won't close its doors until 6 p.m., allowing ample time to send someone out for can of this or a packet of that.

After 6, you're out of luck.

Closing times for grocery stores are as follows:

Lowes Foods: 2 p.m.

Harris Teeter: 2 p.m.

Food Lion: 3 p.m.

Kroger: 6 p.m.

Wednesday Deals (Nov. 16-24)

Turkey and all the Thanksgiving fixings are the stars of this week's supermarket circulars with all the stores competing for their share of your holiday food budgets. Food Lion has the lowest price on turkeys and sweet potatoes while Lowes Foods has great deals on Nestle Morsels and olive oil. At Harris Teeter, check out the deals on Clementines and yeast rolls. And don't overlook Aldi, which is offering 99-cent whole pineapple and 89-cent bricks of cream cheese.

The sales for Harris Teeter, Lowes Foods and Food Lion are good through Thanksgiving Day. The Aldi sales run through Tuesday, Nov. 22, as usual.

And just in case you need to make an emergency run to the grocery Thanksgiving Day, Food Lion will be open until 3 p.m.; Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods will be open until 2 p.m.

OK, movie lovers. You're going to love this deal: Watch a FREE movie of your choice while munching on some super cheap popcorn.

Let's talk turkey deals

The turkey deals at the supermarkets have begun.

But before you swoon over some of the low prices per pound, be sure to check the fine print. Many of the stores are requiring a sizeable minimum purchase.....in addition to the price of the turkey.
