Wednesday deals (June 27-July 3)

Fourth of July sales are in full swing this week with deals on all types of picnic foods, from grilling meats and marinades to salad dressings and produce, along with plenty of snack foods.

While you're stocking up, be sure to collect your freebies and ultra cheap deals, which include free barbecue sauce and free Kool Aid or Country Time drink mixes at Lowes Foods, and cereal for as low as 7 cents a box at Harris Teeter.

Other deals of note:

At Lowes Foods, peaches are 97 cents per pound, Chex Mix is 50 cents per bag, pickles are 65 cents a jar and Ball Park buns are just 69 cents.

At Harris Teeter, there are several Buy 2, Get 3 Free deals, which make for some nice prices on hot dogs, shredded cheese, ice cream and chips. And sweet corn is just 25 cents an ear, which matches Kroger's price.

At Food Lion, the produce department has some excellent deals and chicken leg quarters are on sale for just 69 cents per pound in the 10-pound bag.

And, if you haven't tried shopping at Aldi yet, this week would be good timing. There are sales on produce, grilling meats, condiments and ice cream treats.

I'm also including Kroger deals at the very bottom of the post for easier comparison shopping.

New Sunday Coupons = new Super Double deals at Harris Teeter

It's time for Round 2 of Super Doubles at Harris Teeter, thanks to a new set of coupons from the Sunday newspaper coupon inserts.

I discovered at least one freebie and seven items for 50 cents or less.

Here are the very best of the deals I spotted:

Sunday deals are up (June 24-30)

Free Bayer aspirin, free Suave shampoo, cheap toothpaste, cheap laundry detergent and dish liquid, 75-cent Pepsi 2-liters, 25-cent ears of corn and a fantastic deal on Coppertone sunscreen are among the headline bargains this week at the drugstores and Kroger.

Also worth noting: a free gas card promotion at CVS, a deal on camp physicals at CVS, and a new promotion at Kroger that takes $3 off your order instantly and gives you a $2 coupon to use on your next order.

And, of course, there's Round 2 at Harris Teeter Super Doubles, thanks to a new batch of coupons in Sunday's N&O. Be sure to read my separate post on HT's brand-new deals.

As I like to say, couponing is a team sport. So please post any deals you discover while shopping so we can all save more.

The power of coupons: 99.9% saved

Here's a glimpse at my morning haul at Harris Teeter during the first day of its Super Doubles coupon event.

The cart was full and so was my wallet. I got change back from my dollar bill.

Here's the breakdown:

I purchased $91.98 worth of groceries and paid 90 cents. All of it was tax.

That figures out to be a 99.9 percent savings.

Even though I've been couponing for years, I'm still in awe of how much those little slips of paper can save a family.

That kind of savings never gets old.

My order included 20 "super doubled" coupons, plus an additional one for free ground beef when you purchase Wholly Guacamole and King's Hawaiian rolls. Luckily, the ground beef was on sale and I had coupons for both the guacamole and the rolls.

How exactly did I get my total that low?

I used high-value paper coupons, along with Harris Teeter's digital coupons, and focused primarily on BOGO sales. I also used two Catalina coupons for $2 off my order that I earned on previous purchases.

I got a mixture of staples, healthy foods, health and beauty items, and junk foods. I'll go back later in the week to do a full shop for my week's worth of groceries but I knew that if I didn't get my freebies and super cheap items on the first day they might be gone.

I've got my fingers crossed that Harris Teeter will keep the shelves stocked.

How did you do at Super Doubles? Don't forget to leave a comment on my giveaway post over HERE and you'll be entered to win a $25 Harris Teeter gift card.

UPDATED: Harris Teeter Super Doubles freebies and good deals list

Here's an updated list of good deals for the upcoming Super Double Coupon promotion at Harris Teeter, which starts Wednesday, June 20, and runs through June  26.

After doing a little price checking online and walking the aisles of my local Harris Teeter in Apex to verify sale dates, I discovered numerous good deals, including three moneymakers. You gotta love it when the store will pay you to carry groceries out of the store.

I've also added deals from the new sales circular. (My thanks to HotCouponWorld.com for posting the ad early.) And finally, I've also included numerous unadvertised deals.

Keep in mind my list is specifically tailored to Triangle shoppers, using Triangle store prices and coupons readily available here, either through newspaper inserts, magazines or Internet printing.

No sense getting frustrated looking for a deal we can't get here!

(For Super Double coupon shopping tips and Harris Teeter's rules during Super Doubles, scroll to the bottom of this post.)

Now on to the deals:

Harris Teeter Super Doubles confirmed for this week -- with $2 coupons included!

Several of the national coupon forums, including AFullCup.com, are reporting that Super Doubles is a go for Harris Teeter, starting Wednesday, June 20.

The sites are also confirming that coupons up to and including $2 will double during the special promotion.

This is a huge deal in coupon circles. Up until now, Super Double events at both Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods have only included coupons with a face value up to $1.98.

Harris Teeter Super Doubles rumored for next week

It's not official, but avid couponers on the national couponing forums are posting that Harris Teeter will host a Super Double coupon event starting Wednesday, June 20.

And there's more.
