Greater Neuse girls basketball all-conference

Clayton's Vernessa Hinnant and Coach Marlon Lee leads the Greater Neuse Conference all-conference girls basketball team.

Greater Neuse River Conference basketball tournament

Garner's boys and Southeast Raleigh's girls made a statement by backing up their Greater Neuse River 4A Conference regular-season basketball championships with conference tournament titles.

Talton is girls golfer of year in Neuse

The girls golfer of the year in the Greater Neuse River Conference is Smithfield-Selma's Brittany Talton.

Football, soccer games rescheduled

High school football games across Eastern North Carolina have been moved from Friday night to Thurday night this week because of the threat of high winds and heavy rains from Hurricane Irene. Also, The Brittany for the Boys soccer showcase in Wilson, which was scheduled for Friday and Saturday, has been canceled.

Most Triangle football teams still are scheduled for Friday night.

Among the Thursday night games are Durham Hillside at Fayetteville Smith, Pembroke Swett at Western Harnett, Smithfield-Selma at Nash Central, Midway at Princeton, and Erwin Triton at Harnett Central.

The Brittany for Boys is a soccer showcase that involves more than 50 teams.

Southeast Raleigh girls favorable draw

The Southeast Raleigh girls have a favorable draw in the NCHSAA 4-A East sectional.

NCHSAA 4-AA and 4-A state champions

Charlotte Independence and Greenville Rose have dominated in the NCHSAA state 4-AA and 4-A football championships since 2002 when the playoffs were sub-divided.
