truTV debuts 'Combat Pawn,' a reality show set at Fort Bragg pawn shop

The "Hardcore Pawn" spinoff show set at Fort Bragg has its debut tonight on truTV.

"Combat Pawn" (during production the show was referred to as "Hardcore Pawn: Fort Bragg") is set in the Guns Plus store on Bragg Blvd., a pawn shop specializing in guns and other military items.

According to truTV, Guns Plus is staffed mostly by military veterans, including an ex-Marine and a Special Ops soldier who have firsthand knowledge of rare and collectible weapons. The store is frequented by soldiers and their families and friends, so the military vibe will be strong.

TruTV's "Hardcore Pawn" is an easy sell

I have a bit of a fascination with pawn shops. It's the mix of stuff, money and desperation.

So I was drawn to "Hardcore Pawn" (TruTV, 10 tonight), an entertaining reality show about a Detroit-based, family-owned shop. It has all of those elements, and since it's on TruTV, there's also lots of bleeped cussing. It's the earthy cousin of The History Channel's "Pawn Stars."

The Golds -- father Les, son Seth and daughter Ashley -- run a 50,000-square-foot store that will pawn almost anything. In the first episode, for instance, there's a donkey, a stripper poke, and a homemade cannon.
