Hawk's Nest Notes: Former, loaned and formerly loaned RailHawks in USL-2

There are a number of RailHawk connections in the slimmed-down USL-2, the third level of American professional soccer which went from nine members from a year ago to six this season.

The most obvious ties are three current RailHawks players who were loaned to USL-2 teams this past month.

Diallo, Fusilier on Team of the Week

The change in scenery has done Hamed Diallo well.

Diallo, acquired by the RailHawks via trade with Rochester last week, had an assist in Friday's 2-2 draw at Minnesota and he had another one two days later in a 1-1 draw at Vancouver. In eight appearances in Rochester this season, Diallo had no goals and no assists.

For his efforts, Diallo was named to the USL-1 Team of the Week for Week 13.

Santiago Fusilier, the player on the end other end of Diallo's assist in Minnesota, was also named to the Team of the Week for his efforts against the Thunder.

What they're saying

My story on Wednesday's trade that had Jamil Walker shipped out and Hamed Diallo in is finally posted at carynews.com. Sorry for the delay. I didn't have a chance to catch up with Diallo until this morning. I nabbed him quickly at RDU airport before he and the rest of the team boarded their plane for Minnesota.

For other perspectives on the deal, The (Portland) Oregonian's Boaz Herzog has a report from the Timbers' perspective.

And The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle's Jeff DiVeronica weighs in here and here from the Rhino's perspective.

Though Diallo has struggled to find the net this season, see this video montage of a few of Diallo's goals that offers a glimpse of the Ivory Coast native's knack for the net, courtesy of the Triangle Soccer Fanatics blog.
