Good, clean fun on "Minute to Win It"

Guy Fieri needs another show like he needs a hole in the head, but I can see the allure of "Minute to Win It." (NBC, 7 tonight; 2 hour premiere)

It's a family-friendly show, one that will get him on the radar of folks with little interest in the Food Network.

My little one, a devotee of ABC's "America's Funniest Videos" which airs at the same time, is already talking about splitting the hour so as to see some of both shows. (Apparently, not ALL the videos are that funny.)

Win Guy Fieri tickets and books at Quail Ridge

If you're a Guy Fieri fan, you probably already know that the Food Network star is bringing his road show to Raleigh on November 21.

What you may not know is that Quail Ridge Books & Music is giving away a pair of tickets to the event and two of Fieri's books. The drawing will be held next Tuesday, November 17. Pick up entry blanks at the store.

Chef Walter Royal will cook onstage before Guy Fieri's performance

It seems the Angus Barn's chef Walter Royal is the go-to-guy when Food Network stars come to town.

Royal will do a cooking demonstration before Guy Fieri takes the stage at Raleigh's Memorial Auditorium on Nov. 21. Fieri is the star of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." He bills his roadshow as a rock-and-roll culinary show.

Royal lent his kitchen to chef Bobby Flay for preparation before his performance last year at the N.C. State Fair, and hosted some culinary students who came to hear Flay speak.

Royal once appeared on Iron Chef and defeated Cat Cora in battle ostrich; thus, the Food Network's familiarity with him.

Just as a reminder, I will be giving away two tickets to Guy Fieri's show. Contest details will be published in next Wednesday's food section although I might be tempted to release them earlier on the blog.
