NCISAA fall playoffs down to two days

The N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association playoffs go by fast. Other than football, the postseason for all fall sports started either Tuesday or last Friday and they will all end this weekend (again, other than football).

Here are the remaining fields left in every fall sport.

Stubbs takes over as Grace AD

Last year, Rita Stubbs was a first-year volleyball coach at Grace Christian of Raleigh. She will add to her duties this year, also taking over as the school's athletics director.

Mission Sports Holiday Invitational brackets, match-ups

The Mission Sports Holiday Invitational, held at Cary Academy Dec. 20-22, will feature an eight-team girls bracket and a pool-play boys tournament.

Each of the boys teams will be pooled into groups of three and those teams will square off against one another in the first two days of the tournament.  Following pool play, the teams will be seeded within their pool 1-3 and will commence into bracket play on the third and final day of the tournament.

Area tennis, volleyball and soccer playoff scores from Tuesday

Playoff scores from teams in the Southwest Wake Area such as Apex, Cary Academy, Cary Christian, Athens Drive and Cary in sports like tennis, volleyball, soccer and field hockey.

Chargers, Eagles have seasons end

Cary Academy bows out

The Cary Academy boys soccer team was ousted in the first round of the NCISAA soccer playoffs on Saturday by Charlotte Country Day School, 3-1.

The Chargers were the 9th seed and playing at the 8-seeded CCDS.

Goalkeeper Jake Hammer was forced to make eight saves while senior Jordan Latta scored Cary Academy’s only goal on an assist from Andrew Park.

Sam Andrews led CA this year in goals with 11. Adam Green and Andrew Park each had five assists for the team lead.

No bid for Grace

Even though Grace Christian won the Carolina Christian Conference regular season and conference titles, the Eagles did not receive a bid to the NCISAA 2-A playoffs.

Grace ended its season 14-3 with a 11-1 record in conference.

NCISAA volleyball brackets

Cary Academy is the top seed in the NCISAA 3-A volleyball playoffs, while Cary Christian is the second seed in the 2-A and Trinity School of Durham is the third seed in the 1-A. Volleyball playoffs start Tuesday and will end on Saturday.
