Sanderson Farms reports strong results

Sanderson Farms, the Mississippi company planning to build two chicken processing plants in Eastern North Carolina, reported quarterly results that beat Wall Street expectations.

The company's processing complex in Kinston is expected to open in January with about 500 employees. Eventually, the complex is expected to employ 1,500.

Meanwhile, company officials continue to negotiate over state and local incentives for a proposed facility in Goldsboro that Sanderson announced in March. That deboning factory is expected to employ up to 1,100 people.

Goldsboro call center shuts down

Goldsboro has lost 54 jobs with the closure of a call center.

CDG Management, based in New Jersey, notified the N.C. Department of Commerce to say it would close the center Nov. 27.

The company said in its letter that its closing all fundraising call centers. All the laid off workers will be eligible for state unemployment benefits.

Raleigh golfer wins Dogwood Junior division championship

Will Minton of Raleigh put together three straight rounds under par
(71-69-71—211) to win the boys’ 12-13 division at the Dogwood State
Junior Championship conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association Aug.
4-6 at Cabarrus Country Club in Concord.

Michael McGowan (73-69-68—210) of Southern Pines won the overall boys
title, and Raleigh golfers Alex Ehlert (69-70-73—212) and Spencer
Lawson (71-66-75—212) tied for second overall.

Charlotte's Allison Emrey (73-75-71—219 ) won the overall girls title,
and Clayton's Lizzie Bundy (78-73-79—230) was one of three golfers who
tied for third.
