Fuquay-Varina's Adrian Gonzales heading to Louisburg JC

Wake County's record holder for most goals in a season - Fuquay-Varina's Adrian Gonzales - has signed to play at Louisburg Junior College.

Gonzales had 56 goals for the Bengals in his only season of high school soccer. That number was second in the state last season and ranks 10th all-time in NCHSAA history.

Bobby Murray Invitational field set

Half of the field at the Bobby Murray Invitational, hosted by the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, is from the Cap-8 Conference. The other half includes teams like East Wake, Wake County Homeschool, Fuquay-Varina, Athens Drive (defending champ) and Person.

Scotty McCreery makes pitching debut for Garner High School baseball team

Scotty McCreery lived out his dream Saturday afternoon: one of the dreams he had before he became an “American Idol.”

McCreery played in his first varsity baseball game for the Garner Trojans, pitching the seventh inning of the Trojans’ 8-7 loss to Fuquay-Varina, one of the area’s best teams.

Fernandez commits to Appalachian

Fuquay-Varina's Tyson Fernandez, one of the area's top linemen from this past season, has committed to play at Appalachian State next season.

The 6-foot-2, 315-pound senior has been recognized for his play on both sides of the ball, but plans on playing right guard for the Mountaineers.

4th round of NCHSAA boys soccer

Each N.C. High School Athletic Association boys soccer bracket is down to the regional semifinals, which will be played Saturday. Winners will meet either Tuesday or Wednesday for the chance to play in next weekend's state championships.
