Canceled: NBC cuts 'Free Agents'

NBC has canceled "Free Agents."

I really like Hank Azaria and wish this had worked out for him. It wasn't a terrible show, and the ratings weren't awful, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

NBC will fill the timeslot with a repeat of "Whitney," a fairly lame sitcom that NBC has already picked up for a full season.

Also canceled today, "H8RS," a CW reality show produced by Mario Lopez in which unlikable "celebrities" confront and try to win over people who hate them. That's a just cancelation right there.

What to Watch on Saturday: 'Love Begins' in Hallmark movie

Up All Night (9pm, NBC) - If you missed this premiere on Wednesday, check it out tonight. "Free Agents" airs at 9:30.

Love Begins (9pm, Hallmark) - Clark Davis (Wes Brown) has adventurous dreams of seeing the world, but those dreams are put into jeopardy after he and a friend start a fight which damages a local cafe. Through a plea deal with the sheriff (Jere Burns) and cafe owner (Nancy McKeon), Clark works off his sentence as a farmhand for the Barlow sisters, Ellen (Julie Mond) and Cassie (Abigail Mavity). As time passes, Clark and Ellen begin to fall for one another.

Doctor Who (9pm, BBC America) - The time travelers arrive at a mysterious hotel that houses their deepest fears.

Home by Novogratz (9:30pm, HGTV) - An apartment shared by four models needs some personality and warmth (insert your own joke).

48 Hours Mystery (10pm, CBS) - The release of the West Memphis Three (Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, Jessie Misskelley), who were convicted of murdering three 8-year-old boys in 1993.

Bad Dog! (10pm, Animal Planet) - A dog that plays the piano and sings (how is that bad!?) and a dog with an insatiable appetite.

Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp (10pm, VH1 Classic) - Sammy Hagar rehearses with the campers for the sold-out season-finale concert on the Sunset Strip.

What to Watch on Wednesday: Out with the old, in with the new

Survivor: South Pacific (8pm, CBS) -  The 23rd season begins in Samoa with 18 castaways, including returning players "Coach" Wade and Ozzy Lusth.

Barbara Streisand: One Night Only at the Village Vanguard (8pm, UNC-TV) -  Streisand is at her best in this intimate 2009 show at the Village Vanguard jazz club in New York City.

H8R (8pm, CW) - A new reality series in which hated reality "celebrities" (like Snooki and Jake Pavelka) try to win over the people who hate them. This will only make people hate them more.

America's Got Talent (8pm, NBC) - The winning act is revealed in tonight's 2-hour season finale.

Buried Treasure (8pm, Fox) - In the finale of this short first season, the Keno brothers take a look at the possessions of a Georgia family hoping to raise money to avoid foreclosure.

America's Next Top Model (9pm, CW) - The 17th season is an "all-star" contest, bringing back losers from previous seasons for another shot at the prize. Nicki Minaj is a guest judge.

Necessary Roughness (10pm, USA) - In tonight's Season 1 finale, T.K. faces his rival (Terrell Owens) as the Hawks enter the playoffs. Also, Nico must decide where his loyalties lie.

Up All Night (10pm, NBC) - New mom (Christina Applegate) returns to work while her husband (Will Arnett) stays home with the baby. Reagan's boss, the host of a popular talk show, is played by Maya Rudolph. Next week, this will move into its regular 8 p.m. slot. Worth Watching?

Free Agents (10:30pm, NBC) - The premiere of a new workplace comedy about two lovelorn coworkers (Hank Azaria and Kathryn Hahn) and their ever-changing relationship. Starting next week, this airs at 8:30 p.m. Our take on the show.

THE NEW FALL SEASON: "Free Agents"

In "Free Agents" (10:30 tonight, NBC), Hank Azaria is Alex, a recently divorced and still fragile father. Kathryn Hahn is Helen (is it just me or does she look like Ana Gasteyer to you too?), whose fiance died, leaving her with a lot of wine-fueld lonely nights. The two work together at a PR firm and can't seem to stop jumping into bed with each other, although it doesn't seem like the best idea.

The show isn't flat out funny, but the two leads are likable enough that I might stick around and see if they can take this difficult concept in different directions.

But I'm skeptical.
