Foster's Market celebrates 20 years

Foster’s Market celebrates its 20th year this week. And to celebrate, owner Sara Foster is rewarding her customers.

On Thursday, bring your own mug to either the Durham or Chapel Hill stores and receive free coffee. On Friday, they will give a free cookie to anyone wearing a Foster’s t-shirt or hat. Their e-mail to customers says “the older, the better.”

Also Thursday, the Durham location is doing their On the Porch grill out from 5-8 p.m. The specials include herb peach basted game bens, rosemary and fig thick-cut pork chops, roasted garlic and champagne green beans and an apple pecan mixed green salad. Plus they have glasses of wine for $3 and draft beers for $2.

Sara Foster teaches cooking classes

Sara Foster, cookbook author and owner of the Triangle's two Foster's Markets, is now teaching cooking classes.

Her first one is tonight at 6 p.m. at the Chapel Hill store.

Here is the discription: "Casual Entertaining- Learn how to create a dinner party  for friends without the worry and stress. I’ll show you make-ahead tips for creating a  manageable menu, so you are spending more time with your guests than in the kitchen. "

If tonight's is sold out, you can likely still get into next Tuesday's class, 6 p.m. March 30:

"Dinners that Cook Themselves- Mastering a few  techniques in braising and slow cooking means you’ll spend less time laboring over the  burner or cutting board:  these dinners cook themselves.  I’ll show you my favorites along  with some tips for healthy cooking."

Each class costs $55. Call 967-3663.

What's on Tap: Free Mini-burgers

Sorry readers, I'm moving a tad slow this morning. It must be the weather. I'd rather be in bed.

Each Monday, I highlight a few interesting upcoming events on the dining scene in the Triangle.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is offering free food each Wednesday this month, or at least samples of their mini-burgers at the bar. Now that's a frugal feast if I ever heard of one. The restaurant is located at Crabtree Valley Mall along Glenwood Ave.
