Raleigh's Simson wins N.C. Senior Amateur, and other area golfers are right behind

What a memorable May 13 for Raleigh's Paul Simson. 

He will be inducted into the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame tonight
fresh off winning his 22nd Carolinas Golf Association championship
earlier in the day.

Simson, the defending champion, shot a
final-round 69 to take a four-stroke victory and reclaim the N.C.
Senior Amateur Championship at Forsyth Country Club in Winston Salem. 

Chapel Hill and Bahama golfers lead N.C. Senior Amateur qualifiers

Chapel Hill's Munroe Cobey and Bahama's Lea Couch each shot a par 71
and tied for medalist honors Wednesday to lead a contingent of 30
qualifiers for the 25th North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship.

The cut line fell at 7-over 78 on the 6,349-yard Greenville Country Club course.

The Senior Amateur, conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association, will
be played May 11-13 at Forsyth Country Club in Winston-Salem.

Raleigh's Everett leads qualifiers for N.C. Senior Amateur

Raleigh's William Everett shot a 2-under-par 70 on Tuesday to take
medalist honors and lead a contingent of 63 qualifiers for the 25th
North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship.

The cut line fell at 9-over par-81 in the sectional qualifying tournament at the Bermuda Run Country Club in Bermuda Run.

Terry Heath of Apex, Don Detweiler of Raleigh, James Dill of Cary,
Michael Broadway of Chapel Hill and Phillip Allen of Roxboro also were
among the qualifiers.
