Scotty will finally get his ride Saturday

With all the fame and glory that Scotty McCreery received after being named "American Idol" in May, one thing has been missing — the Ford vehicle he got to pick out as a victory prize.

That will be rectified on Saturday, when Scotty goes to Crossroads Ford of Cary to get his Ford -F150 King Ranch.

In an interview last month at his Garner home, Scotty said his truck was on order. His mom, Judy McCreery, joked that Scotty would be covering the insurance on the new vehicle himself.

Ford Evos concept reveals future design

The Ford Evos Concept is a design study that telegraphs a new styling direction for Ford. Smaller head lamps and a grill that looks influenced by Aston Martin will be seen on future Fords. The gull-wing doors? Not likely, but consumes may not care if the maker can create production cars with silhouettes as sleek as this. Check out the gallery to see if you think Ford is on the right track.

Raleigh-Durham among first markets for Ford's Focus Electric next year

Raleigh-Durham has been named one of 19 markets where Ford will debut its new Ford Focus Electric car, an all-electric, zero CO2 emissions passenger car.

The Focus Electric will debut in late 2011 in markets including many large cities: Atlanta, Austin, Houston, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, New York, Seattle and Washington, D.C. Other markets als named to Ford's list: Orlando, Phoenix, Tuscon, Portland and Richmond.

Markets were chosen based on several criteria, Ford said, including existing purchases of hybrid vehicles, utility company collaboration and local government commitment to electrification. Ford is also planning to develop consumer education programs to teach people about electric vehicles. There is already a website about electric vehicles at www.fordvehicles.com/technology/electric.

Ford hasn’t released pricing information on the Focus Electric. The gasoline-powered Focus, which will make its debut early next year, will have a starting price of $16,995, Ford said last month.

Rougemont man gets his "Price is Right" Mustang

August 3rd was a real lucky day for Danny Roberts.

That was the day the Rougemont man won a 2010 Ford Mustang on CBS' "The Price is Right." (The show aired Nov. 2.)

Roberts was in California visiting his niece whose going to school out there. She had tickets to the show hosted by Drew Carey, so Roberts and his wife Joy, daughter Melanie, son Dan, sister Sheila and sister-in-law Sharron attended.

But it was Danny who was called on down.

Progress to test more electric cars

More electric cars are coming to Raleigh.

The White House announced $2.4 billion in grants today to accelerate the development of electric cars, batteries and other projects.

One grant will give Ford $30 million to deploy up to 150 plug-in hybrid cars. And some of those will go to Progress Energy.

Durham Lincoln Mercury dealer to close

Add Michael Jordan Lincoln Mercury in Durhamto the growing list of Triangle auto dealers closing for business.

The dealership at 3621 Chapel Hill Blvd. will close at the end of the month, said sales manager Mark Sidney.

Sidney declined to say why the dealership is closing, though it’s no secret that sales for all automakers have been slumping. General Motors and Chrysler are closing hundreds of dealers across the country to cut costs and reduce supply.

While Ford has not followed GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy, sales for the Detroit automaker were down 24.2 percent in May, compared to the same month a year earlier. On the plus side, May’s results were the highest monthly sales figures since July for Ford.

Sidney said the dealership’s eight sales and service employees will mostly transfer to the company’s nearby Nissan dealership. The body shop will remain open as it serviced Nissans in addition to Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

“It’s a shame, for sure,” he said.
