Redbox tests video-game rentals in Triangle

Redbox this week started renting video games for $2 a night out of its DVD kiosks in the Triangle.

The move expands the company's test of video-game rentals to see if there's enough consumer interest.

If there's enough demand, Redbox will expand the video-game rentals to more of its 24,000 of its $1-per-night DVD kiosks nationwide. In this region, Redbox has about 75 kiosks in Lowes Food Stores, Harris Teeter, Walmart and other spots.

Redbox to install kiosks in CVS stores

Redbox plans to roll out its DVD rental kiosks in thousands of CVS locations nationwide.

The companies announced a deal to install the $1-per-night  DVD machines in about 700 CVS stores by the end of the year, and many more by the end of 2011.

And every one is assembled in a huge Creedmoor factory, about 30 miles north of Raleigh. That plant, run by contract manufacturer Flextronics, employs about 255 people and in May threw a lunch party to celebrate shipping the 25,000 Redbox.
