Some of WakeMed's finest will be hitting the runway Thursday for a good cause.

WakeMed has teamed up with Saks Fifth Avenue for a fashion show as part of the Saks Key to the Cure events this week. And WakeMed doctors are among those who will be hitting the catwalk. Here's to look for: Dr. Karen Coates, Dr. Lisa Roberts and her husband Paul Garcia, who also happens to be N.C. State's band director, Dr. Michele Casey, Dr. Michael Ferguson, Dr. Mark Benevides, Dr. Susan Kennedy, Dr. Carroll Overton, Dr. Tony Tackman, Dr. Lori Tackman, Dr. Monica Jones and her husband John Jones.

Also, Kellie Harper, N.C. State's women's basketball coach, and her husband John Harper will be models in the show.

Tickets cost $30 and include a wine tasting and hor d'oevres. The event is from 6-9 p.m. Buy tickets at keytothecure.wakemed.org.

Date set for next Art to Wear fashion show

N.C. State design and textiles students are already making plans for the next Art to Wear fashion show. Next year, it will be held April 14 again at Reynolds Coliseum. And it sounds like there will be some sort of connection/involvement with the reopening of the N.C. Museum of Art.

Tiffany Koury's Spring 2010 runway show

Broughton High School grad Tiffany Koury returned to New York Fashion Week with a presentation of yet another glamorous collection full of pretty, sophisticated cocktail dresses and evening wear for spring. Check out a video of her latest runway show here. (Or see stills of the collection online at her Web site here.)

With all the long pearls, classic cuts and French music, the collection felt very Coco Chanel, although the theme was Alice in Wonderland. I really liked the green cocktail dress with the poufy sleeves. Here's another one (shown here) that was a stunner.

GrooveFest fashion show canceled

The fashion show that was set to take place Thursday as part of Cameron Village's GrooveFest has been canceled. Part of the reason for the cancellation, it turns out, has to do with the sorority sisters who were to be the models in the show. They are on some sort of H1N1 flu virus lock-down.

But there's still plenty of fashion fun happening this week at Cameron Village. The merchants and employees are supposed to be dressed up all week in their favorite fashion from the 1960s.

Dress for Success clothing drive, fashion show at University Mall

University Mall in Chapel Hill has teamed up with Dress for Success in the quest to collect gently used women's business attire. The shopping center is looking for suits, separates, scarves, dresses, brief cases, purses and shoes that can be given to women who need clothes for job interviews.

They'll be collecting clothes on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shopping center. If you donate, you'll get a one-time 20 percent discount good at participating stores.

Get there at 2 p.m., and you'll get to see a free fashion show.

Fashion show to celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Pretty in Pink Foundation and the Women Business Owners Network have teamed up for "Honoring You," a fashion show and luncheon Oct. 7 to celebrate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to raise money for the foundation.

The show, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Matthews House in Cary, will have 10 winter styles from Doncaster in Chapel Hill. The models on the runway will be members of the network and the Pretty in Pink Foundation.

Tickets cost $20 for members and $30 for non-members who pre-register before noon on Oct. 5. Registration at the door costs $40. For more information, go to www.wbon-cary.org. Or contact Ruth Drum at Crossroads Business Center at 919-424-3801.

Reminder: FashionSPARK tonight

I've spent the better part of the day watching the runway for tonight's FashionSPARK fashion show being built on the 200 block of Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh. A big production, to be sure, with bleachers, big lights and a stage.

Local music fans will love it, too, because all 15 designers have worked with local musicians to create music for their shows, making it truly a local production.

And among the many standouts in tonight's show ... Raleigh Denim, the husband-and-wife jeans company, which this week is basking in the glow of some serious national press. Did you see them on page 212 of Elle's October issue?

Get out early to get a seat! The show starts at 8 p.m. And don't forget to hit the FashionSPARK shop to buy some of the creations from the runway.

Couture for a Cause tickets on sale now

Buy them now for $15 or wait until the day of the event and buy them for $20.

Couture for a Cause is one that you might not want to miss, especially if you love local fashion. ME-3 will pair 20 local designers with a local charity, including Neuse River Foundation, Ten Thousand Villages, Artspace and Boys and Girls Club. Then the designer will create an outfit that best embodies the spirit of the non-profit group. The designer who does the best job capturing the essence of the non-profit gets $250.

The event will be held Oct. 23 from 8-10 p.m. at Marbles Kids Museum.
