What to Watch on Sunday: Emmy Awards and a new season of 'Treme'

Primetime Emmy Awards (8pm, ABC) - Jimmy Kimmel hosts the 64th annual awards show tonight. HBO's 81 nominations are more than any other network, although everything for "Hemingway & Gelhorn" should be nullified. "American Horror Story" and "Mad Men" are the leading shows, with 17 nominations each. Presenters include Louis C.K., Ricky Gervais, Ginnifer Goodwin, Mindy Kaling, Jim Parsons and Amy Poehler.

Hell on Wheels (9pm, AMC) - The aftermath of the tragedy leaves Lily and Cullen struggling to maintain order, while Elam plan for the future.

Boardwalk Empire (9pm, HBO) - Eli gets out of jail but he clashes with his new boss as he settles into a different line of work. Meanwhile, Gyp Rosetti takes an interest in the route between Atlantic City and New York, and Chalky helps his daughter map out her future.

Treme (10pm, HBO) - Season 3 begins in the fall of 2007, as the neighborhood is shocked by police officers' response to a brass-band procession for a fallen musician. Also, Delmond (Rob Brown, right) and Albert (Clarke Peters, right) experience different reactions to their new album, Toni finds a new ally in her ongoing crusade for justice, and LaDonna is uncomfortable in her temporary lodgings.

Copper (10pm, BBC America) - Corcoran and O'Brien investigate a double homicide, and the evidence reveals that the crimes are part of a revenge plot gone wrong.

Breaking Amish (10pm, TLC)
- The cast grow more comfortable in the city when they get wardrobe makeovers and tattoos. Kate and Rebecca mull modeling careers, but surprise visits by Abe's and Rebecca's families could squash that.

Live updates from the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards

The 63rd annual Emmy Awards, hosted by "Glee" star Jane Lynch, gets going tonight at 8 p.m. on FOX. Check back here after 8 for live updates from the show.

If you want to get started early, there's a live backstage webcast from the Emmy website starting at 5 p.m. A Red Carpet show starts at 5 p.m. on the E! channel.

Here's a full list of nominees, which include former Raleighites Michael C. Hall and Evan Rachel Wood. Hall is nominated for his starring role in Showtime's "Dexter," and Wood, who has a recurring role as the campy Vampire Queen of Louisiana in HBO's "True Blood," is nominated for her supporting role in the HBO miniseries "Mildred Pierce." Wood has an excellent shot at winning. We're pulling for both of them!

Recap below.

First, check out this photo gallery from the show and this one from the Red Carpet.

HBO leads the nominations with 104 and its miniseries "Mildred Pierce" leads all with 21 nominations, followed by AMC's "Mad Men" with 19. Former Raleigh residents Michael C. UNCSA alum and Mount Airy native wins Emmy

UNC School of the Arts alum Zach Seivers (Class of 2006) won an Emmy for Outstanding Sound and Editing for Nonfiction Programming at last weekend's Creative Arts Emmy ceremony. Seivers won for his work on "Gettysburg," which aired on The History Channel.

Seivers is originally from Mount Airy and this was his first Emmy nomination. Seivers was the sound designer on "Gettysburg" and shared the award with sound editors Charles Maynes, who was a guest artist in the School of Filmmaking in 2006, and Brent Kiser.

Seivers is the chief operating officer of SNAPSOUND, a post-production sound company in Los Angeles.

2010 Emmy recap: Party time at AMC, HBO

The stars are working the Red Carpet now, heading inside for the big night. From the limited bit I've seen so far, it sounds like navy blue is big color this year. Here's a photo gallery that will be updated several times tonight.

Starting the live recaps at 8pm. Check in periodically for updates!

8pm: GREATEST. EMMY. OPENING. EVER.  Host Jimmy Fallon took the kids from "Glee" and at least one person from a bunch of other shows and did a terrific song and dance number to Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." Betty White gave Jon Hamm dance lessons and then Hamm sang a bit (Jon Hamm singing Springsteen? I can die happy now). Jorge Garcia from "Lost," Joel McHale from "Community," Tim Gunn from "Project Runway," Tina Fey from "30 Rock" -- perfection.

What to Watch on Sunday: Emmy Awards and "Drop Dead" wedding finale

62nd Primetime Emmy Awards (8pm, NBC) - Jimmy Fallon hosts from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. "The Pacific" and "Glee" are top-nominated with 24 and 19. George Clooney gets the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award. We'll be covering it live so check back here for updates and recaps.

NFL Exhibition: Steelers at Broncos (8pm, Fox) - Emmy has some stiff competition tonight...

Drop Dead Diva (9pm, Lifetime) - In the two-hour season finale, Jane works a case involving a cyber bully. Also, Grayson meets Vanessa's parents, and a case involving cryogenics has Jane and Grayson thinking of Deb. Most importantly, who is Jane marrying? Paula Abdul guest stars again, but this time she's not a judge in Jane's dreams, she's her wedding planner. Hmmmm.

True Blood (9pm, HBO) - Bill tries to earn back Sookie's trust but ends up introducing her to new dangers. Eric, knowing he's no physical match for Russell, tempts the king with "the ultimate vampire dream." Also, Jason tries to wrap his head around the fact that he's dating a cat.

The Cove (9pm, Animal Planet) - This is the film that exposed the abuse and slaughter of dolphins at the hands of Japanese fishermen and won the 2010 Oscar for best feature-length documentary. You may also be interested in Animal Planet's new three-part serires, "Blood Dolphins."

Mad Men (10pm, AMC) - Peggy and her new creative partner don't see eye-to-eye, and Don pitches a client under an unusual set of circumstances.

Will Emmy come through tonight?

Tonight is the night we hope against hope that Emmy rewards some of our dark horse television favorites and finally gives trophies to those who really deserve them. Here at Happiness is a Warm TV, that of course means Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler from "Friday Night Lights" absolutely must win. And also, anyone from "Breaking Bad." Oh! And "Mad Men." Or "Dexter."

Shoot. I guess they can't all win.

This year should be pretty interesting, though, since there are so many really deserving nominees. I can only name a handful of nominees whose wins would truly tick me off (ahem, "Office" and Alec Baldwin). Mostly, I think the majority are deserving. (Here are my picks from early July.).

The show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, begins at 8pm on NBC. We'll be live-blogging recaps here all night, starting at 8pm, so check back often.
