Cameron Crowe documentary on Elton John tonight on HBO

The Cameron Crowe / T-Bone Burnett documentary chronicling the critically acclaimed 2010 musical collaboration between Elton John and Leon Russell debuts tonight on HBO.

In "The Union" (9 p.m. ET), Crowe ("Jerry Maguire," "Almost Famous," "Pearl Jam Twenty") shows a candid Elton John during his composing process, something never filmed before.

Filming for "The Union" began in 2009, covering the entire writing and recording process of John's album with Russell.

Sounds good to me. Check out a clip of an interview with Elton John below.

Headed our way: Elton John

The RBC Center won't be called that for too much longer, but the Raleigh arena just announced a mighty big show. Elton John will play there on March 16, right about the time the building's name change to PNC Arena is supposed to take effect. Tickets start at $37 and go on-sale Jan. 27.

What to Watch on Saturday: The Final Four, Elton John hosts SNL

NCAA Tournament (6pm, CBS) - The Final Four games start at 6pm with Butler vs. Virginia Commonwealth, then UConn takes on Kentucky at 8:30. I hope you're good with that, because there's not much else on tonight.

Kids Choice Awards (8pm, Nickelodeon) - Jack Black hosts the 24th annual celebration honoring kids' favorites in film, tv, music, and sports. Scheduled to perform: The Black Eyed Peas, Train, Big Time Rush, and Willow Smith. Justin Timberlake receives the Big Help Award. The show repeats at 10pm.

Saturday Night Live (11:29pm, NBC) - Elton John is the host, and also serves as music guest, along with Leon Russell. Check out his promos with Jason Sudekis. I have to admit the second one cracked me up more than it should have.

Scotty Watch: Finding his Elton 'Comfort' zone

When the 11 “American Idol” finalists were asked to pick Elton John songs to perform this week, Garner's Scotty McCreery, left, quickly honed in on the only Sir Elton song with “country” in the title: the somewhat obscure “Country Comfort.”

The first singer of the night, Scotty brought his new guitar, which he christened “Scarlet,” to the stage for the song. It was one of his usual assured country performances. Scotty even managed to include a mid-song shout out to his grandmother -- "Love ya, Grandma!" She was in the audience this week.

Also as usual, the judges praised it. Steven Tyler said he loved “everything” about Scotty’s voice. Jennifer Lopez lauded Scotty’s “amazing instincts,” and Randy Jackson said Scotty continues to grow. Jimmy Iovine, the “Idol” music mentor, said some may call Scotty a one-trick pony, but “it’s one of the best tricks I’ve ever seen.”

Scotty Watch: What Elton song should he sing?

It's Elton John Week on "American Idol," which could present a bit of a problem for Garner's favorite country singer with the low voice.

So, what should Scotty McCreery sing?

Last week, the Garner High School junior showed how to take a Motown song (Stevie Wonder’s “For Once in My Life”) and give it a country twist. But can Scotty do the same thing to a classic Sir Elton pop song?

Coldplay gives you the classic rock of tomorrow -- today

Coldplay held forth in Raleigh on Thursday night, and it was a pretty nice old-school Big Rock Event. Click through to see the review, and check out a very fine photo gallery of shots from the show here.
