Fowler, Avent agree on extension

N.C. State athletics director Lee Fowler said today that he and baseball coach Elliott Avent have agreed on a contract extension, pending approval by the school's board of trustees.

Avent said Wednesday night that he had held discussions with Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs about the Tigers' head-coaching vacancy but had met with Fowler and wanted to stay with the Wolfpack.

N.C. State, Avent make new deal

RALEIGH — N.C. State baseball coach Elliott Avent, contacted this week by Auburn about its open coaching position, said late Wednesday night that he had worked out a new deal to remain with the Wolfpack.

Avent, whose team reached the NCAA Super Regionals this season, would not reveal details of an agreement he said he reached with athletics director Lee Fowler earlier in the day. Fowler could not be reached.

Avent said he talked with Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs this week about the Tigers' job. Auburn finished 11-19 in the Southeastern Conference and 28-28 overall this season, and fourth-year head coach Tom Slater resigned last month.
