Wake County school board approves pay raise for temporary Superintendent Stephen Gainey

The Wake County school board approved a new contract tonight for temporary superintendent Stephen Gainey and appointed two principals.

Gainey will receive an additional $3,000 a month in salary and an additional $750 a month for travel. This comes on top of the $120,000 salary he receives as assistant superintendent for human resources.

The board hired Carter Hillman to be principal of the East Wake School of Health Science in Wendell, with a salary of $90,201. The former Knightdale High School assistant principal is currently principal of Richwood High School in Summersville, W. Va.

Craig T. Matthews was named interim principal of Leesville Road Middle School in North Raleigh. He's served in various interim positions since retiring as principal of Jones Dairy Elementary in 2008.

New principals named to Wake Forest-Rolesville and Southeast Raleigh high schools

The Wake County school board announced Tuesday two new high school principals and two interim principals.

Patti Hamler will now be principal of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School with a salary of $124,043. Hamler is a former high school principal who has been principal of Leesville Road Middle School in North Raleigh since 2007.

David Schwenker will be principal of Southeast Raleigh HIgh School with a salary of $109,137. Schwenker has been principal of Carnage Middle School in Raleigh since 2009.

Wake County school board appoints three area superintendents and a principal

The Wake County school board appointed three top administrators and a principal last week.

Howard "Todd" Wirt was hired to become the assistant superintendent for academics with a salary of $120,000. Wirt has been the executive director for secondary education for the Mooresville Graded School District since 2011.

Clinton Robinson will become the southwestern area superintendent with a salary of $120,000. He had been principal of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School since September.

Pender County hires away East Wake High School principal

The East Wake High School of Health Science will need a new principal

The Wilmington Star-News is reporting that the Pender County school board voted today to hire Craig Baker as principal of Pender High School. Baker had been the principal of the School of Health Science and the campus manager of the four small schools that comprise East Wake High School in Wendell.

Baker had been principal of the School of Heath Science since 2005. Before then, he was an assistant principal at East Wake High from 2002 to 2005. He's a former teacher and athletic trainer at the high school.

Coincidentally or not, former Wake County Chief of Staff Terri Cobb is the superintendent of Pender County schools. Cobb had also been a principal at Lockhart Elementary School in Knightdale.
