DURHAM – Durham Hillside, ranked No. 1 in the latest N&O poll, started slow against city and Piedmont Athletic Conference rival Durham Jordan, but the homestanding Hornets eventually treated the homecoming crowd to the show it was waiting for.
The Hillside ground game controlled the clock, running for 310 yards, and stayed undefeated with a 34-14 victory Friday night.
DURHAM – After starting the season with a six-game losing streak, Southern Durham finally knows what a winning streak feels like.
Jeremy Thompson scored touchdowns on a 62-yard kickoff return and a 1-yard rush, as the Spartans rallied to win their second straight game and spoil Durham Jordan's homecoming with a 28-14 win Friday night at Claude Currie Stadium.
Northern Durham coach Anthony Sullivan left it up to his kids Friday night.
In a tie game late in the fourth quarter and facing a 4th and 1 from his own 35-yard-line, Sullivan let his team go for it. They rewarded his confidence by making it, then Xavier Taylor put the icing on the cake with a 47-yard touchdown run as Northern held on to a 21-14 home victory over Durham Jordan to stay undefeated in the Pac 6 conference.
Durham Jordan has a chip on its shoulders. With their crosstown rival, Durham Hillside, getting most of the media attention, the Falcons feel disrespected.
They took out some of those frustrations on their PAC-Six opponent Friday night with an overwhelming 36-7 win over East Chapel Hill. The win keeps the Falcons (5-1) one game behind the Hornets in the conference.
With lots of misdirection, fake handoffs and play-action passes, Enloe’s Double Wing attack is a test of a defense’s patience and will. Friday night, Jordan passed that test with flying colors.
The Falcons front seven read its keys, dominated the line of scrimmage and ran away with a 28-8 win at home.
Durham Jordan remains atop the N&O high school soccer rankings.
Even without the services of UNC commit T.J. Thorpe, out with an ankle injury sustained in the previous week's game, Durham Jordan found enough big plays to get a 21-9 win over Green Hope on Friday.
Last night, Durham Jordan’s soccer team defeated Broughton 2-1 in what has been the biggest match of the season. Although the season is still young, there are a few things to take away from Jordan, the second-ranked team in the state, finding a way to beat Broughton, ranked fourth.
You can read the game story here.
Both teams had multiple opportunities to score, but Jordan’s midfielder Teddy Mullin was able to score on each of his two chances, which was enough for the win. These teams are more than likely to meet later on in the postseason. Here’s what we’ve learned about them after Tuesday.
Some area high school soccer teams already have played and many begin their season tonight. So here's my preseason boys soccer rankings.
