Durham Academy wins "Play 4 the Cure" field hockey tournament

Durham Academy won the “Play 4 the Cure” field hockey tournament on Saturday by defeating Charlotte Providence Day School 5-0 in the championship game. Tournament MVP Lauren Rogers had three goals in the title game, while Robin Blazing had the other two.

The two-day annual tournament, which raised money for breast cancer research, was hosted by Cary Academy. After pool play on Friday, the 12 teams were broken up into three four-team brackets on Saturday.

NCISAA lacrosse finals set

Durham Academy will play at Charlotte Country Day in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association boys and girls lacrosse finals on Saturday.

The NCISAA girls lacrosse championships will be played at the higher seed in each round. The first round is Tuesday, May 17, with the semifinals on May 19 and championships on May 21.

The NCISAA girls soccer brackets have been released. Cary Academy, Cary Christian, Ravenscroft. St. Mary's, Durham Trinity, St. David's and Cape Fear Christian Academy represent the greater Triangle area.

NCISAA baseball brackets are below. Among the local teams that advance to this wekend's playoffs are Cary Academy, Durham Academy, Durham Trinity, St. David's and Cape Fear Christian Academy.

The first round begins Friday or Saturday with the following rounds taking place May 17, 20 and 21.

Falcons pass Leesville in girls soccer rankings

Green Hope has surpassed Leesville Road as the top-ranked 4-A girls soccer team in the state. The move comes after Green Hope's 3-2 overtime win over Apex (a team that Leesville tied 0-0).

Cardinal Gibbons is still the top-ranked 3-A team in the state.

NCISAA basketball brackets

The Raleigh Word of God Christian Academy boys basketball teams, the top seeds in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A tournament, safely advanced through the first round of the tournament on Tuesday.

Also playing in Thursday's quarter finals are: Cary Christian girls, St. David's boys, Cary Academy girls, Durham Academy girls and Ravenscroft boys.
