No history today

In case you were thinking of venturing out for a little local history today --

Durham's Bennett Place, Duke Homestead and Stagville state historic sites are closed for the weather; whether they will open Wednesday is yet to be decided.

Hold the harvest

In light of Saturday's weather forecast, Duke Homestead State Historic Site has postponed its Tobacco Harvest & Hornworm Festival until Sept. 20.The annual affair was to have gone on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3:15 p.m.

Those hours still apply with the rescheduling, said staff member Brian Taff, and the hornworm race, tobacco-stringing contest, mock auction and Moonpie-eating contest will go on as originally planned.

The only casualty of rescheduling, Taff said, is the antique tractor show. The tractors are already committed elsewhere on the 20th.
