Whether it's an actual doomsday scenario or just the prospect of a few days (or weeks) without electricity, it's always good to be prepared.
No one knows this better than the folks featured on the National Geographic Channel series "Doomsday Preppers," which follows groups of people from all over the country who who believe the end of society as we know it could be right around the corner. Those people spend their time preparing for a "doomsday" by stocking up on food, water, weapons, medical supplies, generators, zombie swords, you name it.
Season 2 of "Doomsday Preppers" officially begins on November 13 (10 p.m.), but there's a special preview episode airing this Sunday night at 10 p.m.
National Geographic Channel sent us this Doomsday Prepper starter kit (Doomsday beans, a can opener, a packaged dehydrated meal, and a roll of Doomsday toilet paper).
I want to pass this box of goodies along to a reader but it's kinda heavy, so I'm going to ask that whoever wins be able to scoot by the N&O office and pick it up. If you want it, send me an email by Sunday at midnight and I'll do a random drawing and have it available for pickup (215 S. McDowell Street in downtown Raleigh) on Monday.
