Michelle Obama in DvF

Michelle Obama spoke on health care Friday wearing a black and white graphic print skirt from Diane von Furstenberg's fall 2009 collection. Which just begs the question: What took you so long? It seems she's worn all the majors -- and more -- publicly except DvF.

The DvF wrap ... a good investment in troubled times?

In the past month, I've had three people tell me how thankful they were that 5 or more years ago they bought a Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress. Two of them called their DvF's an investment.

An investment, of course, because now that they've cut back on spending for clothes, they have these chic wraps that still look stylish and feel just as good on them as they did when they first bought them.

That said, check out what's new from DvF at Saks Fifth Avenue. I'm loving this chain-link print (the Justin wrap). Cost is $325. But if you wore it once a month for five years? That's about $5.50 a wear. Keep the dress for 10 years, and it goes down to $2.70 a wear.

DvF also is sold locally at boutiques such as Beanie + Cecil and Gena Chandler.

Dare to pair with DvF

If you hadn't already clued into the new mismatched print trend happening for spring, you'll have it beaten into you by fall.

Check out the dueling prints on Diane von Furstenberg's runway for fall 2009, which was presented Sunday at NY Fashion Week.

Uh ... wow?

I have to say, my favorite part of the look is the pop of red from the necklace.

DvF was definitely stretching her design muscles for this collection, packed with what's become her trademark funky prints, printed leggings and pompom hats.

Off the runway, I'm betting this collection, in small bits, is easier to digest without all the drama created for the show.

DvF is sold at stores throughout the Triangle, including Scout Molly's, Saks Fifth Avenue and Beanie + Cecil.
