ABC News "Made in the USA" map gives NC high ranking

ABC's "World News with Diane Sawyer" has spent a lot of time lately talking about products made in the USA and how buying more locally made products can put Americans back to work.

They compiled a list of products made in the US and illustrated their findings on a cool interactive map. The map shows North Carolina with the fourth highest number of companies making products, with 43 companies listed.

It isn't exactly scientific (you can submit other companies you know of if they aren't on their list), but it's still pretty cool.  Click on the map and then click each state to see the list of companies pop up, organized by city.  The Raleigh company listed is Tierra Ideas, Inc. They turn recycled materials into computer bags, backpacks, bicycle seats, and other things. Burt's Bees is listed for Durham.

ABC News anchor Charles Gibson signs off

Tonight's 6:30 national news on ABC ws the final broadcast of Charles "Charlie" Gibson.

It was a weeklong goodbye, as Gibson said, "you may have heard a time or 6", with Gibson on each broadcast since Monday, sharing different memories of his long farewell.

Gibson, you'll remember, came in to the anchor job when ABC News was in trouble. The network had replaced the late, great Peter Jennings with two anchors -- Bob Woodruff and Elizabeth Vargas in 2006. But Woodruff was badly injured by an IED in Iraq, and Vargas got pregnant, and had to take a leave. In disarray, ABC pulled Gibson off of "Good Morning America," a gig, ironically, that was supposed to be temporary for he and Diane Sawyer.

Diane Sawyer and Chris Cuomo both leave GMA on Friday

Tomorrow will be the last early morning for "Good Morning America" teammates Diane Sawyer and Chris Cuomo.

Sawyer, of course, is leaving the morning program to anchor "ABC Nightly News" with the departure of Charles Gibson. Cuomo was a top contender to take over Diane's co-anchor spot on GMA, but instead ABC gave the job to George Stephanopoulos. So Cuomo is leaving GMA to co-host "20/20" with Elizabath Vargas. JuJu Chang is taking Cuomo's place on GMA.

Got all that?

It's a shame to break up what was left of the Diane-Robin-Chris-Sam team, because they had great chemistry together. (Stephanopoulos is a snooze in our opinion, but we'll keep an open mind till we see him in action at 7am). Stephanopoulos begins work Monday morning, and Sawyer takes over as ABC's top anchor on December 21.

So don't forget to tune in tomorrow if you're a fan of the old GMA gang, so that you can properly say goodbye. I still love Robin Roberts and Sam Champion, but the likelihood that I'll switch back and forth to "Today" a little more often while getting reading in the mornings just increased substantially!

Rihanna: Chris Brown beat me 'like he had nothing to lose'

A couple of hours before "20/20" broadcast the interview of singer Rihanna by Diane Sawyer, I was involved in a three-way, sometimes loud, discussion about the Rihanna/Chris Brown incident.

The guy in the conversation, who is a good guy, basically said that it was odd that Chris Brown beat Rihanna for no reason, thus suggesting that somehow Rihanna was at fault somehow, and then said that he thought it unfair that Chris Brown was still a pariah. He feels that we (society) shouldn't hold celebrities to a higher standard, and, I guess, in real life Chris wouldn't be having it so hard.

Again, this is a good guy. And I hope he watched Rihanna's interview because she addressed all his issues.

Rihanna talks about domestic violence on "GMA"

Well, Rihanna has a new album coming out.

So it's time to talk about her relationship with Chris Brown and the night that he beat her.

And while it feels a bit like she's exploiting her own pain for a hit, this clip shows she's got some important things to say. Unlike Chris Brown's chat with Larry King, she speaks quite powerfully. (Mr. Brown apparently gives it another shot in the new revamped Vibe magazine. He's got an album coming too.)
