In four months, many North Carolina residents who receive federal benefits will no longer have a check coming their way.
The U.S. Department of Treasury is switching over to all-electronic payments for those receiving Social Security, veterans’ benefits, railroad pensions and federal disability payments as of March 1, 2013.
While 1.9 million North Carolina beneficiaries receive their payments electronically, 172,000 paper checks are still sent out each month.
