On the front page today, Jay Price has a tale about cutting-edge technology and how it has changed the life of Cassidy, a German Shepherd mix treated at N.C. State's vet school.
Cassidy is the first doggy to receive an artificial limb fused directly to the leg bone. Just yesterday, he took his first steps on the new limb— tentative at first, but quickly becoming a confident gait.
Said the orthopedic surgeon, Denis Marcellin-Little: "I'm actually a little bit shocked. We're 10 minutes into it, and he's moving really well."
