Daughtry: Almost (but not quite) a consensus choice

McLeansville's "American Idol" star Chris Daughtry is still living pretty large nowadays, with his second album debuting at No. 1 last month and an arena-sized tour kicking off this fall. But you just don't get that big without catching some slings and arrows -- like this one. Ouch...

(Thanks, Angela.)

Daughtry: No. 1 yet again

The record industry might be melting down faster than an ice-cream cone on a hot summer sidewalk, but McLeansville's Chris Daughtry is still doing just fine. "Leave This Town" (19 Recordings/RCA), followup to the "American Idol" finalist's 4-million-selling 2006 debut, just became Daughtry's second straight album to hit the top of the Billboard 200 album-sales chart. It sold 269,299 copies in its opening week to debut at No. 1.

In the interests of full disclosure, I should note that I didn't much care for "Daughtry" (and still don't) -- much to the ire of his fans.

What to Watch on Friday: Chris Daughtry on Jimmy Kimmel Live

Chopping Block (8pm, NBC) - The two remaining teams have two days left to remodel restaurants for their grand openings.

Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (8pm, Fox) - Star Jones and Jack Hanna compete for charities.

Jimmy Kimmel Live (12:05am, ABC) - "American Idol" finalist North Carolina native Chris Daughtry's band Daughtry performs live via satellite from Seattle. Daughtry (right) is playing a free concert at Seattle's Paramount Theater as part of the Samsung/AT&T Summer Krush series.

Marathon man: Chris Daughtry

The mainstream record industry is still falling apart, but McLeansville's Chris Daughtry is still one of its few commercial bright spots. Nearly two years into its chart run, his debut album is still bouncing around the top half of the Billboard 200 after selling 4 million copies (more than anyone else on the chart except for the Eagles). And even if the Grammy Awards have given him no love, the American Music Awards still like him just fine. Sunday night, the group Daughtry won the trophy for "Favorite Band, Duo or Group" -- his fourth overall, after winning three last year.

Daughtry wants you to vote

Here is McLeansville homeboy Chris Daughtry's first new music in quite some time -- although it's not an original song. Instead, it's a very faithful cover of Foreigner's classic-rock warhorse "Feels Like the First Time," recorded as theme song for the CNN network's League of First Time Voters initiative.

Daughtry's version of "Feels Like the First Time" will also appear on the upcoming "Deluxe" expanded version of his wildly popular 2006 debut album, "Daughtry," due out Sept. 9.

Daughtry: A long, long way from McLeansville

Further evidence of just how ginormous McLeansville native son Daughtry is all over the planet nowadays can be found in this report from Jakarta about an event called "Jamming With Daughtry" -- and I'd love to know what this actually says. Anybody here speak the language? If so, holler...

(Thanks, Brian.)
