DWTS: Aretha Franklin to appear

She doesn't show up around here when she's supposed to, but it looks like Aretha Franklin will be performing on the Dancing with the Stars elimination show tonight. The show airs on ABC at 9pm.

Dancing with the Stars: Lance Bass finally in sync

"We have a new leader of the pack."

Dancing with the Stars is officially "exciting" again, according to my mom. And the thanks go to Lance and Lacey (or as we like to call them when we are typing really fast, Lancey).  And that whole Cody/Julianne reunion thing? Gigantic letdown. Here's the scoop:

Dancing with the Stars: Maurice takes off, Cody hearts Julianne

There was no dozing off tonight -- "it was very exciting!"

Sadly, Maurice Greene, the world's fastest man, is high-tailing it home. My mom is totally okay with that, because it means Cody can dance "one more time" with Julianne. That's a popular sentiment, I think. They must be darn cute together.

Brad Paisley was the guest singer tonight, and Lacey danced to one of his songs with her brother Benji. "I didn't like that dance," my mom said. "I don't know why some people think when you dance to a country song that you have to do a hoe-down. That irritates me to death." To the other song, the pros danced (with Max) and they did really well. "Max is going on the tour, which will be really good. I might try to go to that."

Then Dr. Drew (LOVE HIM) interviewed everyone. Last week my mom said the show was hilarious with Kenny Mayne and Jerry Rice doing DanceCenter, but this special segment was not funny. "It went from laughter to tears," she said. Turns out Dr. Drew made Cody cry.

Dancing with the Stars: Will Cody be the next to go?

Dancing is now down to five couples, and my mother was underwhelmed tonight. "It wasn't as exciting tonight, for some reason," she said. "Maybe it's because I almost dozed off three times."

Or maybe it's because Cloris is gone! She was bad, but she kept things lively!

Tonight, each couple had to do 2 dances and then the "star" had to do a 15-second solo dance.

Cody and Edyta, Mambo and Foxtrot. "They were pretty good. I didn't really like the Mambo they did, and I don't like Cody (pictured) with Edyta -- I like him with Julianne. If he can hold out till she returns, he can do better."

Dancing with the Stars: Don't let the door hitcha...

My phone rings..."Susan Lucci is gone!"

There is no ambivalence. "She was very nice, very gracious, and very sweet -- as usual. But she's gone and she needed to go." Discussion over.

The best part of the night, my mom says, was the DanceCenter segment by former DWTS contestants Jerry Rice and Kenny Mayne, and judge Len Goodman. DanceCenter is a spoof on ESPN SportsCenter (where Mayne works) and it is pretty funny, I have to admit (Scroogy ABC allows no clips on Youtube or I'd give you a link). Rice and Mayne have returned to DWTS each season to do the segment, where they dress up in funny costumes and critique the remaining dancers like they would critique players or teams on SportsCenter. Mayne and Rice are hilarious. So is Len when he acts disgusted with their antics.

Dancing with the Stars: Susan Lucci stomps around

Len is back, and back to being tough. My mom likes him better than the fill-in Lord of the Dance guy, because "he said everyone was good and they weren't. Len is honest and tells it like it is."

He's not the only one who tells it like it is...

Cloris Leachman stops "dancing"

Careful what you ask for. Cloris G-O-N-E gone. Sure, she couldn't dance, but she was entertaining, right?

My mom: "Glory hallelujah."

Cloris's last Cha-Cha?

Tonight, the show just wasn't very good, according to my mom. It seems lately everyone is hurt or sick all the time, and the shows haven't been as exciting. The biggest point she wanted to make after Monday's show was that it is time for Cloris, God love her, to go home.

Cloris and Corky, Cha-Cha: "It wasn't much of a Cha-Cha. She was terrible. When she finished dancing everyone stood to applaud, but I think it was because she survived all that spinning around. Just bad. But Carrie Ann was mean to her and hurt her feelings, which she didn't need to do. Maybe it didn't hurt her feelings but it hurt my feelings for her."

Susan and Tony, Mamba: "She said before the dance -- and she was actually serious -- that she felt she needed 'freedom' on the floor. I still haven't figured that out. To 'do her thing' I guess. She had 'freedom' with the Mamba but she didn't use it. Her timing was off."

Toni dances no more

Elmination night, and the unlucky star is Toni Braxton. From last night's review of Braxton's West Coast Swing, we know my mom was "not impressed" with her dance, and apparently, neither was America.

The bottom two Stars were Toni and Susan Lucci, with Lucci being the star my mom wanted sent home. "Both of them are gonna have to go eventually," she said. "So it doesn't really matter who went tonight."

Dancing with the Stars: Word from my mother

Last week my mother declared that Cloris Leachman's fans were going to kill her on live television, but she's softening on that opinion a bit. Now it's down to eight Stars and tonight they introduced four new dances: the Salsa, the Jitterbug, the Hustle, and West Coast Swing. For the most part, the pros have never mastered these dances.

On Lance Bass and Lacey (West Coast Swing): "Lacey is a West Coast Swing champion, so that was a little bit unfair. She just got out there and out-danced her partner so badly that the judges were turned off by it. Lance Bass didn't do much of anything."
