Dress your kids for less at fall consignment sales

Note: If you have information on additional sales, let me know in the comments section, and I'll add them to the list.

It's prime time for fall consignment sales in the Triangle -- the perfect opportunity for parents to save money on fall and winter clothing for their kids.

Nearly a dozen consignment sales are scheduled over the next several weeks in the Triangle.

It's a great way to make a little money on the clothes your kids have outgrown and then turn around and save again by purchasing the next size up from other Triangle families.

A fringe benefit is "the recyling aspect," said Diane Willeford, a mom of two boys and an organizer of the KidzStuff Consignment Sale at Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh.

"There's no reason for things I'm done with to be thrown away and added to the landfill while it still has a lot of useful life left," she said.

In addition to clothing, many sales also offer toys, books, games, bicycles and baby equipment. Clothing sizes range from newborn to juniors. Some also offer maternity clothes.

Most sales offer early shopping days for volunteers and sellers, and many offer discounts in the final days of their sales.

Save some green on teen and tween clothing

If you're constantly trying to balance your teenager's expensive tastes with your tight budget, you might want to set aside some time this weekend for a consignment sale geared specifically for teens and tweens.

You'll save money buying used and you'll save 6.75 percent more because the sale coincides with the state's tax-free weekend.

Two Apex moms turned entrepreneurs are running the Teens Going Green consignment sale at the Cary Masonic Lodge at 1142 Southeast Maynard Road.

Want to run a consignment sale?

Here's your chance. My colleague Sarah Lindenfeld Hall over at the N&O's TriangleMomToMom site is reporting that the owners of Durham's Children's Clothing Exchange are looking for potential buyers for the sale. Read all about it here. The blog post also includes the dates for the fall consignment sale.

Divine Consign sale coming back

The popular Divine Consign Children's Consignment Sale returns for its fall/winter sale Aug. 31 - Sept. 4, just in time for back-to-school shopping.

The show, which will be held at Stonehenge Shopping Center on Creedmoor Road in Raleigh (next to Mobley's Shoes) is known for its bargain prices on overstocks from boutiques and gently used designer clothes for kids.

For the general public, the show will run from Sept. 2 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. to Sept. 3 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The clothing drop-off date for consignors is Aug. 31 (pre-registration required). There's a preview show for volunteers, consignors and grandparents Sept. 1. And another for first-time mothers (ahem ...) the morning of Sept. 2.

Volunteers are still needed and shifts are available before, during and after the show.

Look for overstock brands such as at Three Mommas, Wish Upon a Star, Two Friends and Kate & Libby. Consigned brands in the past have included Lilly Pulitzer, Orient Express, Rags Land, Castles and Crowns, Just Duckie and Baby Lulu. All of the pre-owned items are screened by the Divine Consign staff to make sure they are stain free and in good condition.

For more information about volunteering, consigning, shopping or becoming a sponsor, go to www.divineconsignshow.com and go to the Raleigh show.
