Duke reacts to the ACC Grant of Rights deal

The ACC announced a Grant of Rights agreement with all 15 current and future members of the league Monday (that does include Notre Dame). In layman's terms, the TV revenue of each school will belong to the league until 2027, essentially guaranteeing all schools will stay in the conference (no one would leave that money, which will be around $20 million, behind). Here are statements on behalf of a few notable Duke administrators and coaches, as released by the school:

“I am thrilled with today’s announcement by the Atlantic Coast Conference. It is one of the great days in the history of our conference as it shows the highest level of commitment – not by words, but by actions. With all the uncertainty regarding conference affiliations the past several years in college athletics, this announcement, coupled with our media rights deal with the world’s best sports broadcasting network, secures the ACC’s future, and thus Duke’s, for years to come. As a long-time coach in this league, I understand how terrific the ACC has been. With continued commitment by current members and the addition of several outstanding institutions, the ACC should be in position to reestablish itself as the nation’s top conference in the years to come.” – head men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski

Notre Dame to join ACC July 1

Due to the impending breakup of the Big East as we know it, Notre Dame will join the ACC earlier than initially expected.

The Irish reached an agreement with the Big East that will allow them to join the league in every sport but hockey and football July 1, the school announced in a statement Tuesday.

"From the time of our decision to join the ACC we have stressed our commitment to ensuring that our departure was achieved in a collegial manner," Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick said. "This agreement realizes that intention and we are very grateful to the members of the Big East and Commissioner Mike Aresco for helping to facilitate this orderly and timely transition."

Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey to AD: "Please don’t take me to the Big 12"

CHAPEL HILL—When Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey and atheltic director Jack Swarbrick first talked about conference realignment, Brey had one request.

"I told our AD when conference movement was being talked about and the Big 12 was coming after us for this same kind of setup, I said, ‘Jack, we just can’t lose the East,'" Brey said. "'The East is important to our school, especially our basketball program. Please don’t take me to the Big 12.’"

Brey, a former Duke assistant under Mike Krzyzewski, got his wish when Notre Dame announced Wednesday it was joining the ACC as a full member in every sports expect football.
