SciQuest wins key contract with Colorado

SciQuest has won a key contract with the state of Colorado, which could open the doors for similar deals with other states.

The deal represents a big breakthrough for Cary-based SciQuest, which sells e-procurement technology and services to universities, pharmaceutical companies and other customers. It has had a contract with Georgia, but officials have been pushing hard to add more business with other state and local governments.

Final terms of the Colorado contract are still being negotiated, but it could be worth nearly $5 million over five years. SciQuest CEO Stephen Wiehe declined to comment until all of the agreements with Colorado are signed.

The contract is a "highly visible win in the state and local market, which we believe may act as a catalyst for additional government opportunities for SciQuest," JMP Securities analyst Patrick Walravens wrote in a report to investors.

First Citizens buys failed Colorado bank via FDIC

First Citizens Bank orchestrated a deal with federal regulators to take over a failed Colorado bank with eight branches.

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. announced late Friday that it closed United Western Bank, which had about $2.05 billion in assets. Its branches in Denver, Boulder and other Colorado cities will reopen on Monday morning under the First Citizens name.

It's the first FDIC-brokered takeover for Raleigh-based First Citizens in nearly a year. In 2009 and early 2010, First Citizens bought four failed banks through the FDIC, including in California and Florida.

Today's DVD giveaway will make you yearn for family!

George of Cary is yesterday's winner of the "Simon and Simon" DVD. What a great way to start the day.

You can have that feeling too. Today we've got the complete second season of "Everwood," an unsung family show starring Treat Williams that aired on The WB. If you've never seen it, don't think treacly, think nuanced.

Williams plays Dr. Andy Brown, a recent widower, who moves with his two children to Everwood, Colorado for a new start. This 6-disc collection of 22 episodes takes up the story in the second year, where Andy finds he can love again (Marcia Cross!) and his son Ephram (Gregory Smith) falls for an older girl. Meanwhile, Emphram's friend Amy falls into a depression after the death of her boyfriend and then, falls for the wrong guy.

The extras are few, just some unaired scenes.

Just email me (adrienne.johnson@newsobserver.com) with the name of the TNT drama in which Treat Williams also played a doctor in the subject line. In the body, give your name and contact information. Entries with the correct answer will be put in a random drawing to choose a winner.

We'll take emails until midnight. (Thursday, Dec. 17) Check back tomorrow for the winner and a new chance to win.
