Team scores from today's Johnston County High School Individual Wrestling Championships. Impressive showing for West Johnston, while first-year schools Cleveland and Corinth Holders both finish in the top-four.

Cleveland, Corinth Holders wrestlers win multiple matches

Rams win four matches at Triton Invitational
Cleveland went 4-1 on Saturday in the Triton Invitational prep dual wrestling tournament. The Rams picked up wins over Clinton (58-24), Overhills (42-33), Cary Academy (60-24) and Triton (54-21). Harnett Central was the only team to defeat Cleveland, taking a 39-36 decision.
Derrick Applewhite (103 pounds) and Chance Wallace (160) both went 5-0 during the event for the Rams.
Corinth Holders wrestlers win two
Corinth Holders topped Goldsboro in a dual wrestling match recently, 56-24. Pirate wrestlers Nick Pulliam, Cameron Brewer, Tyler Sigler, Charlie Gray, Justin Matthews and Elijah Harris all won by pinfall. Picking up decision victories were Corinth Holders’ Matt Duncan and Tyler Johnson, while Michael Hurley and Cyle Gurley both won by forfeits.
Corinth Holders topped Franklinton 38-34 on Jan. 19. Picking up wins for the Pirates were Chris Benson, Nick Pulliam, Brewer, Shaquan Walden, Tyler Johnson, Sigler and Mathews.

Cleveland boys earn first Eastern Carolina Conference win

Cleveland's boys basketball team earned their first Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference victory Friday night, topping North Lenoir, 70-66. The Rams held North to nine fourth-quarter points.

Julian Reed led Cleveland (2-14, 1-5) with 34 points, including a 21-for-22 night at the free throw line. Taiquan Dixon added 10 points, while Joseph Chukwu pulled down 10 rebounds. Gilbert King added five points, four assists and four steals for the winners.

Cleveland resets trip to Erwin Triton

Cleveland has rescheduled its postponed basketball games against Triton for Feb. 11. The games will be played in Erwin.

Tonight's prep basketball games involving Johnston County Schools all called off

Cleveland High Holiday Tournament cancelled; Clayton-Millbrook girls' Glaxo game moved to 2 p.m.

The prep basketball tournament scheduled for this week at Cleveland High School with Cleveland, Corinth Holders, West Johnston and Wake Forest Heritage has been cancelled because of road conditions.

Clayton's game in the GlaxoSmithKline Holiday Girls Invitational against Millbrook at Cary Academy will be played today, but it has been moved to a  2 p.m. start at Cary Academy's second gym. 

All other athletic activities in Johnston County have been cancelled for today (Dec. 27).

Princeton's Ben Jacobs is MVP with 38 points, 14 rebounds in final, averaged 36 PPG in event. 

Garner 91, Wake Forest-Rolesville 77

The Trojans enter the holiday break 9-0.

Wallace-Rose Hill 78, Cleveland 67

.Cleveland's Jeremiah David has a triple-double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks. Julian Reed leads the Rams with 22 points in the loss.

Girls Basketball

North Brunswick 48, Cleveland 27

Cleveland falls in tournament semifinals.
