Leslie, Howell lead Pack to 80-63 win at Reynolds

RALEIGH — Richard Howell and C.J. Leslie took advantage of an undersized Cleveland State team to lead N.C. State to a 80-63 win at Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday.

Howell had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Leslie had 19 points and eight boards. The No. 25 Wolfpack put together perhaps its best half of the season, taking a 47-32 lead at the break and then closed out the Vikings in the second half.

Howell had a double-double for the third time in four games as Cleveland State's bigs, both listed at 6-7, couldn't keep up with either Howell or Leslie.

Pack schedule tougher than it looks

N.C. State will play North Carolina and Duke at home next season in basketball.

Neither game will be a given once the league expands to 14 teams before the 2013-14 season so it's noteworthy that both the Tar Heels and Blue Devils will visit Raleigh.

Who knows when that will happen again?

Cleveland State stuns Wake Forest

MIAMI — Fourth-seeded Wake Forest just got blasted out of the NCAA tournament, losing 84-69 to No.13 seed Cleveland State in a game that finished around midnight Friday.

So the Deacons ended up going 0-2 in the ACC tournament and the NCAA tourney this season and going only 8-7 over their final 15 games. A season that began with so much promise – 16 straight wins! – ended with an absolute whipping by Cleveland State, a team that hadn’t made it to the NCAA tournament since 1986.
