The kickoffs of a couple of high school football games tonight have been moved to 6:30 p.m. Fuquay-Varina plays at Clayton at 6:30 tonight and Wake Forest Heritage goes to North Johnston at 6:30.
Cleveland head coach Marc Morris was talking about his first-year varsity program, but he could have been talking about anybody on opening night. "We don’t know what to expect out of our kids," Morris told Mike Potter last week. "You can play all the JV games you want and it’s not like playing varsity football."
South Johnston claimed the Johnston County Volleyball Tournament championship last night with a four-set victory over West Johnston. Trojans' senior Kaitlyn Barbour was named the event MVP.
West Johnston will meet host South Johnston tonight at 7 at South Johnston in the championship match of the Johnston County Volleyball Championships. All of the other six Johnston County prep squads will be in action as well.

West Johnston, which ousted defending JUSA Cup champion Clayton, will meet South Johnston Thurday night at 7 in the championship match of the JUSA Cup, Johnston County's prep boys soccer tournament.
Smithfield-Selma will host South Johnston, Clayton, Cleveland, Corinth Holders, Northern Nash and Harnett Central for the Smithfield-Selma Invitational cross country meet on Saturday. The event will be held at Smithfield Community Park, beside Smithfield-Selma High School. The first race begins at 8 a.m.
