Raleigh Reuse Rodeo on tap for Oct. 15

The Triangle Reuse Alliance and the City of Raleigh has teamed up to host the Raleigh Reuse Rodeo on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, which will be held at Providence Baptist Church at 6339 Glenwood Ave., gives area residents the opportunity to bring reusable materials to one location for the benefit of several local nonprofits that are dedicated to reuse and waste reduction.

Raleigh restructures The Mint's lease to give restaurant temporary break on rent

The Raleigh City Council today approved a rent restructuring for The Mint restaurant located in the city-owned building One Exchange Plaza on Fayetteville Street.

The revised agreement between the city and Raleigh Restaurant Group reduces the rent by $1,159.63 per month for three years and then recoups much of that money with higher rents in the later years of the lease.

The restructuring reduces the overall value of the 10-year lease by $339.

The Mint opened in January 2008, shortly before the economy tanked and consumers severely cut back on eating out.

Trash pickup canceled today

The city of Raleigh has canceled its trash collection today because of the weather. Here's the new schedule, which bumps everything back a day:

Today's collections are moved to Wednesday.

Wednesday's collections will be picked up on Thursday.

Thursday's collections will be picked up Friday.

Friday's collections will be picked up Saturday.

Raleigh-Durham among least segregated

Neighborhoods in the Raleigh-Durham area are among the least segregated in the country, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Among the country's 50 most populous areas, only Charleston and Las Vegas were more integrated in measuring black-white segregation in neighborhoods.

Data over the past 30 years shows the Triangle's two largest cities have gradually become more integrated each decade when the Census information is collected. The latest survey data was collected from Jan. 1, 2005 through Dec. 31, 2009.
