Canceled: Fox kills three shows. Poor Christian Slater...

Fox will not be picking up more episodes of "Human Target" or "Breaking In."

The sitcom "Breaking In" was Christian Slater's third attempt at leading a hit TV show. Action drama "Human Target" has aired for two seasons and starred Mark Valley as a high stakes bodyguard. Both shows were considered bubble shows at Fox. Other bubble shows with worrisome futures are "Chicago Code" and "Lie To Me." Of all these shows, "Chicago Code" is the only one I'll miss.

UPDATE: Yikes, that was fast! "Chicago Code" has also been canceled. Dang it!

In other Fox news, NC native Jaime Pressly will head a new sitcom for the network next fall. "I Hate My Teenage Daughter" is about two women who were tormented by mean girls when they were younger. It's from the same folks who brought us "New Adventures of Old Christine."

What to Watch on Monday: Cuddy's mom threatens to sue on 'House'

Meanwhile, luck runs out for a partially paralyzed lottery winner (Donal Logue, 'Terriers').

Chuck (8pm, NBC) - Chuck puts spying on hold to enjoy his bachelor party, but the bash takes surprising turns thanks to some surprising guests.

Cougar Town (9:30pm, ABC) - The ill-named sitcom returns after an extended hiatus. Ellie is worried that Jules (Courtney Cox) is meddling in Travis' life, Grayson learns about friendship from Andy, and Bobby and Laurie introduce Penny Can to a new audience. Is it me or does this sound like essentially all the 'Cougar Town' episodes?

Break "The Chicago Code" and you'll uncover greatness

Thank you, Shawn Ryan.

You've given us the magnificent show "The Shield" and the gone-too-soon and wonderful "Terriers."

And now there's "The Chicago Code" (Fox, 9 tonight), an excellent, almost immediately absorbing, gotta-see-the-next-one cop drama with great writing, strong performances and beautifully shot too.

It's easy to make Chicago look beautiful because it is beautiful, but "The Chicago Code" is also shot cinematically. The city is as much a character as the people in the plot.

What to Watch on Monday: Will House save Cuddy's mom?
