New principal named to North Forest Pines Elementary School

The Wake County school board appointed a principal to North Forest Pines Elementary School tonight and made several interim principal appointments.

Syreeta Smith was promoted from assistant principal to principal of North Forest Pines Elementary in Raleigh. She's been at the school since 2007 and will receive a salary of $80,788.24.

As for interim principals:

Principals named to Enloe High School and other Wake County schools

Wake County school leaders announced tonight the appointments and transfers of seven permanent and seven interim principals.

Scott Lyons was named principal of Enloe High in Raleigh with a salary of $99,666. He's been principal of Leesville Road High since 2009. He used to be an assistant principal at Enloe.

Christopher McCabe will be principal of Heritage Middle in Wake Forest with a salary of $93,303. He's been principal of North Forest Pines Drive Elementary since 2007.

New principal named to Wake Early College of Health and Sciences

The Wake County school board appointed one permanent and five interim principals this evening.

Lisa Whitaker was named principal of Wake Early College of Health and Sciences in Raleigh with a salary of $85,659. She has been an assistant principal at Middle Creek High since 2008.

Gerald Pickett was hired to be interim principal of Enloe High in Raleigh with a salary equivalent to $127,496. He was principal of Fuquay-Varina from 2001 until he retired in 2005.

School board fills two more senior leadership positions

The Wake County school board filled two top-level jobs and a principal's vacancy tonight.

Christine Mulder was hired for the newly renamed position of chief of family and public engagement. The job was previously called chief of communications but is being revamped as part of Superintendent Tony Tata's shakeup of his leadership team.

Her predecessor, Michael Evans, resigned last month.

UPDATE

Mulder's salary is $132,500. Baker's salary is $120,000.

School board fills new position of assistant superintendent for special education

The Wake County school board reached into Superintendent Tony Tata's former school district tonight to fill the new position of assistant superintendent for special education services.

Lisa Grillo, a former special education teacher who is currently a principal in D.C. Public Schools, was hired for the new assistant superintendent's position. Tata was D.C.'s chief operating officer before being hired by Wake.

Tata created Grillo's new position as part of a reorganization of his leadership team. Her salary was not immediately known.

Grillo's salary is $120,000.

Principals named for Bugg and Middle Creek elementary schools

The Wake County school board appointed one new principal and one interim principal tonight.

Michael Armstrong was named principal of Bugg Elementary School with a salary of $74,439. He has been an assistant principal at Combs Elementary since 2008.

Charles Langley was named interim principal of Middle Creek Elementary with a salary that would be equivalent to $113,972 over a full year. Langley has filled in across the district since retiring at principal of Willow Spring Elementary in 2008.

Three principals appointed

The Wake County school board tapped principals tonight to run three schools.

Therman L. Flowers was named principal of Reedy Creek Middle School in Cary, with a salary of $88,545. Flowers is currently principal of Pearsontown Elementary in Durham but had run Millbrook Elementary in Raleigh until 2007.

Wake names two new principals

The Wake County school board announces principal changes tonight affecting two schools.

Charles Miller will be the new principal of Powell Elementary School in Raleigh. Miller, who will receive a salary of $75,155, has been principal of Middle Creek Elementary since 2006.

Garner High and other new principals

We've got new principals tonight at Garner High, Ligon Middle, Fuquay-Varina Elementary and West Lake Elementary.

Drew Cook was promoted from assistant principal to principal of Garner High. He replaces Mike Holton, who cited medical reasons for his departure.

Cook, who has worked as a teacher and AP at Garner High since 1997, will receive $97,167 a year,

New Leesville Road High principal named

We've got some comings and goings among principals and senior administrators.

Here's one a lot of you guys have been waiting for. Scott Lyons will become principal of Leesville Road High School in North Raleigh, replacing Stephen Gainey, who became assistant superintendent for human resources.

Lyons has been principal of Ligon Middle School since 2005. He used to be a teacher and assistant principal at Enloe High.
