Ever since Pepper's Pizza closed down in March, the North Carolina Musicians Mural -- consisting of portraits of Nina Simone, Randy Travis and other Tar Heel music icons -- has been out of public view. But the paintings by Birds of Avalon drummer Scott Nurkin are back in circulation. They just went up at UNC's Center for the Study of the American South in Chapel Hill, where they'll be on display through the summer. Nurkin will be at an opening reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Then come fall, the paintings will move to their new permanent home on campus, at UNC's music department. Sounds like a highly satisfactory outcome.
